Wait until it's spore 101 time: Imagine the air around you is filled with tiny, invisible "seeds" called spores. They are so small you can't see them, but they are everywhere! Every time you take a big breath in, a few of these tiny seeds go into your lungs, and when you breathe out, most of them come right back out. Inside your house: In a normal breath, you might breathe in less than one single spore. It’s like trying to catch one tiny grain of dust in a big room. Playing outside: Because there is more "nature" outside, you might breathe in 10 or 20 spores in one breath. Don't worry, though! Your body is like a superhero. Your nose and lungs have tiny "brooms" and sticky spots that catch these spores and clean them out so they don't grow or cause trouble. You've been breathing them since the day you were born! Your body has a special cleaning team made of three main parts that work together like a superhero squad to keep those tiny "seeds" (spores) out of your lungs. The Sticky Trap: Your nose and the tubes in your lungs are lined with a sticky liquid called mucus. Think of it like flypaper or invisible honey. When you breathe in a spore, it gets stuck in this sticky trap before it can go deep inside. The Tiny Brooms: Underneath the sticky trap, there are millions of tiny hairs called cilia. These hairs move back and forth like little brooms or a wavy "escalator". They sweep the sticky mucus (with the spores inside) up and out of your lungs toward your throat. The Hungry Guards: If a spore somehow gets past the sticky trap and the brooms, your body has special "guard" cells called macrophages. They act like tiny Pac-Men that "eat" and destroy any bad guys they find. Once the brooms sweep the spores up to your throat, you usually just swallow them without even knowing it! Your tummy has strong juices that finish the job.

Just tried to explain how many people 1 billion people is to my 6 yo. I ended up explaining in terms of number of stadiums. It’s a lot.

This crisis is reaching people on the national stage...Americans across the nation are watching, @CAgovernor. Our people are crying for help; we need a state declaration of emergency now. This isn't just a federal issue—it’s a California issue, and Californians are suffering.
