Californians deserve criteria that are clear, objective, and applied consistently — not retroactive standards that elevate some candidates that didn’t meet the initial criteria while excluding others that clearly did. The criteria must be applied in a way that is fair, transparent, and consistent. Debate organizers should come clean about how these decisions were made, disclose the full criteria that were used, and explain why those standards appear to have been applied differently to different candidates.
