Kaydel crumbles into more sobs as Rey collects the tears before they even have the chance to rolls down her cheeks with the pad of her thumb. She takes a few steps toward the Jedi and wraps loose arms around her while burying her face into the other’s shoulder. More tears>>

It’s never too late to correct mistakes.

Note to self: never have a granddaughter.

A steady breath passes her lips and she nods. At what, she isn’t sure. By now, any exhaustion from before has been purged from her and she’s hyper aware of herself. “I can’t imagine what that would be like, going from an extremely dry world to somewhere as verdant as this>>

Rey’s voice tears Kaydel’s gaze away from the monitor to settle on the Jedi and how soaking wet she is from the torrential rain. She straightens up in her seat, eyes wide and her heart stirring. “Rey, it’s good to see you,” her voice quivers and heat rises in her cheeks. >>

The gentle patter of rain hitting the foliage and nearby transports outside is starting to lull Kaydel to sleep as she reads over reports and supply lists at her monitor.


Kaydel stops in her tracks and turns her head toward the other, though she doesn’t lift her eyes to meet Rey’s gaze yet. Fear still surges through her veins, not from potential rejection, but rather from verbally acknowledging her feelings and sharing them with the other. >>
