@Acyn This guy was a random filmmaker 10 years ago. How did he turn out to be one of the most talented politicians of his generation?

Ossoff: I don’t know if you saw, but JD Vance was in Georgia this week. Don’t worry—no one showed up. The stadium was empty. But JD came to UGA to attack the pope two days after Trump depicted himself as Jesus Christ. The faithless president depicts himself as Christ while he plunges the nation into wars of choice, while he and his family rake in billions from foreign princes.

Fun fact about Paolo Zampolli, the guy who introduced Trump to Melania: He owned a building 1 block away from the old BuzzFeed NYC office and would rent some of its apartments on AirBnB. I stayed there a lot (proof attached, he gave me great reviews). This was part of the decor:

@ettingermentum wtf is non-white going for Collins by 9? is it just a small sample size - there's a total of 30 non-white folks in all of Maine?

@Xenoimpulse Just a government that finally shows us what the markets are for. Trading markets have always been meant for this - being manipulated and leveraged by people with inside information.

@ettingermentum Can you explain why Haley Stevens is still in it? From everything I have seen, she is a blabbering disaster in interviews. She doesn't have a particularly compelling House voting record. And she looks like a fake AI character.

@ettingermentum why did Kamala even bother trying to meet and have an interview with him? It has always been obvious he was posing as somewhat-impartial to capture a broader audience.

So the reason this Polymarket “prediction market” is performing so insanely high is because there’s a second market asking if this market will go above 5%. People in the derivative market are manipulating this market. Which defeats the public policy case for prediction markets…

@tysonbrody getting the country into war to make money thru insider trading on Polymarket is truly crazy

Some war related insider trading? A brand new account in polymarket, only invested in US going to war with Venezuela and Maduro out by January 31. Up 13k so far, was spending thousands on Maduro out at bargain prices as recently as 4 hours ago. Now it’s at .50.

@lxeagle17 is it just regression to the mean? low propensity, non-white voters coming back to the Dems, and non-white contrarian voters voting for the party out of power?

It's better to win than it is to lose, so Democrats will take whatever they can get. They're also in a much better position in the House now than they were in 2018 (215 seats vs 194), so even the smallest gain will see them flip it. But this is a way more inefficient wave too.

Everyone keeps likening 2018 to 2026, but they couldn't be more different. This is a very, very different type of blue wave. 2018 was defined by Democratic gains with college-educated whites. 2026 is non-whites and non-college, low-propensity voters. theargumentmag.com/p/the-unraveli…

@lxeagle17 Is there evidence that moderation leads to the approx. same overperformance shift on safe-red seats (~R+15) as for lean-red seats (~R+5)?

The problem with a lot of academic arguments of "is moderation useful" is that they claim it's useless because moderates lost a lot of R+15 seats, not recognizing that you can overperform and still lose — and if you overperformed by that amount in an R+5 seat, you'd win.

One of the things roiling Democrats right now is that people look at folks who moderated like this in R+20 seats, overperformed by 10, and lost. Then, they say "well, what's the point?" But if Democrats in R+10 seats did this, they'd win way more often.
Cassie Pritchard@hecubian_devil

I still need to do a proper read-through of Simon’s Deciding To Win analysis, but the biggest problem I always have with this argument is: all these guys lost in 2010, 2012, or 2014. They didn’t go woke; they ran as Blue Dogs and got BTFO’d. Especially 2010 is pre-woke.

This is prob too technical a post to try tweet within the character limit. But trying to give ppl a window into the actual MATH of elections, not just *vibes*. Like, Ohio is Dems best pickup, and Ossoff really isnt in that much danger, but you'd never know that from reading ET.

Late night math lesson: The avg midterm favors the outparty by ~4%. Incumbency on avg is worth ~3% - Appointed incs gain no bonus Off these alone (i.e. not candidate quality), it's clear why Senate Dems are targeting Ohio. By FAR their best shot on paper at gains after NC/ME.
