@becauseberkeley I grew up on that island. My brother was missing until yesterday afternoon. Oprah buying up land can kick rocks. So many native people are displaced, and this is just the next disaster that rich f**ks will benefit from. It’s gut wrenching.

@historyinmemes My mom worked triage for that flight. She was at the beach when her pager went off. It was totally wild. Those days, Maui had 1 hospital, and one major road that lead to the airport from the hospital. It’s very different now but those folks are SO lucky to be alive.

Aloha Airlines Flight 243 was a scheduled flight between Hilo and Honolulu in Hawaii. The flight departed from Hilo International Airport on April 28, 1988, with five crew members and 90 passengers on board, bound for Honolulu. After a routine takeoff and ascent, the aircraft had reached its normal flight altitude of 24,000 feet when a section on the left side of the roof ruptured. The top half of the aircraft's skin, extending from just behind the cockpit to the fore-wing area, which was approximately 18 feet in length, was ripped off, leaving a gaping hole in the roof. The crew quickly declared an emergency and diverted to Kahului Airport for an emergency landing. During the approach to the airport, the left engine failed. Nevertheless, they were able to land safely on Runway 2, thirteen minutes after the incident. Sadly, one flight attendant was ejected from the airplane and her body was never found. However, miraculously, every other person on board survived the incident.

Jobs continue to grow in SF, led by tech and hospitality. But construction jobs are down 1,200 this year. Blocking new housing kills jobs. Anti-housing laws kill jobs. Pro-housing policies are pro-job policies. Let's add homes, create jobs, and build a stronger San Francisco.
