🚨 IMMIGRANT RAPIST CHARGED CHARGED: Man charged following attempted rape in Sheffield park The meticulous work of officers and detectives has led to the charge of a man in connection to the attempted rape of an elderly woman in a Sheffield Park. Ali Askre, 25, of no fixed abode, is charged with attempted rape and causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He has been remanded in police custody. On Wednesday (25 March) morning at 7.26am, officers were called to Concord Park in Shiregreen, following reports of a man assaulting and trying to rape a woman as she walked through the park. The victim, a woman in her 70s, was taken to hospital where she remains and is thankfully recovering well. Askre will appear before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court today (27 March).

We were called at 7.26am yesterday morning (Wednesday 25 March) following a report of a man assaulting and trying to rape a woman as she walked through the park, which is in the Shiregreen area of the city. The victim, a woman in her 70s, has been taken to hospital with serious injuries, not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing. A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with this incident on suspicion of attempted rape. He remains in police custody at this time. Sheffield North East Neighbourhoods Inspector Alec Gibbons said: "The victim is receiving support from officers and trained medical professionals, and we have put extra patrols in place in the local area. "We understand that news of this incident will cause concern in the local community and I would urge anyone with questions or concerns to please speak to our officers on the ground - they are there to help you and keep you safe." We would urge anyone with information about this incident to please speak to officers in the Concord Park area during their patrols or get in touch with us by calling 101 or reporting via our website.
