اختموا رمضان بالاستغفار
Sheikh Abdussalam Ash-Shuwayer حفظه الله said:
‘It is narrated that Umar Ibn Abdul Aziz رضي الله عنه used to write to the provinces at the end of Ramadan, saying:
"Conclude Ramadan with seeking forgiveness."
So, increase in seeking forgiveness during these final days. Why?
So that you do not:
- Become impressed with your own deeds.
- Admire your worship.
- Become deceived by yourself.
Whoever is deceived by their own actions and worship is doomed!
Increase in seeking forgiveness. The one who truly seeks forgiveness from their heart is the one who recognises the shortcomings in their deeds.
Perhaps a small act, accompanied by certainty in Allah and humility before Him, is more beloved to Allah than a large deed tainted by self-admiration.
You do not know which deeds will be accepted. You do not know which good deeds will be multiplied and those that will not.
For Allah multiplies a good deed up to seven hundred times, while for others, He may not multiply it at all depending on what is in the heart.
Many people see their rewards reduced, or even nullified, due to their self-admiration.
But when one says "Astaghfirullah", not just merely with their tongue, but from their heart, they acknowledge that their deeds are inevitably deficient. No matter how well a person performs a deed, it will have deficiencies.
- Deficiencies before the action
- Deficiencies after the action
- Deficiencies during the action
Every righteous deed should be sealed with seeking forgiveness.
The Prophet ﷺ concluded the obligatory prayers by saying "Astaghfirullah, Astaghfirullah, Astaghfirullah".
Thus, the early generations, like Umar Ibn Abdul Aziz and others, understood that Ramadan should be concluded with seeking forgiveness.
So in these last days, seek Allah’s forgiveness.’

Before the last ten days of Ramadan begin, set ambitious goals and intentions for yourself, striving with all your might and determination to achieve them. Focus on one or two of these goals, keep them in mind, and don't let anything distract you until you achieve them. Here are some examples:
1. Complete a recitation of the Quran every day and night.
2. Spend the nights, or the odd-numbered nights, in prayer, recitation, and remembrance of Allah from after Maghrib prayer until Fajr prayer.
3. Remember Allah thousands of times with prescribed supplications such as La Ilaha Illa Allah, Alhamdulillah, Subhanallah, Astaggirullaj, saying "La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah" saying "Hasbunallahu wa nimal wakil," and sending salat upon the Prophet.
4. Dedicate ample time to supplication and intimate conversation with Allah at Iftar and during the pre-dawn hours; no less than an hour.
5. Spend most of the nights in solitude, eliminating distractions and focusing solely on Allah and His worship.
And any other goals that are similar in ambition and purpose.
Experience the lives and days of the righteous during these nights, and translate what you hear about their circumstances into reality in your own days and nights. Do not be content with little this time; strive with those who strive to draw closer to Allah. Perhaps Allah—seeing your sincerity and struggle—will grant you a blessing this time that no one can withhold. (Whatever mercy Allah opens for people, none can withhold it; and whatever He withholds, none can release it after Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.)

It was narrated that Bara’ said:
While we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he noticed a group of people and said,
“Why have these people gathered around him?”
It was said, “Around a grave they are digging.”
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ became alarmed and hurried ahead of his companions until he reached the grave, then he knelt beside it.
I came forward from in front of him to see what he would do. He began to weep until the soil became wet from his tears.
Then he turned to us and said:
“O my brothers, for the like of this day — so prepare yourselves.”
