Responding to outbreaks tomorrow is about preparing today. Glad to have continued our training program at the University of Global Health Equity (@ughe_org ) for final year medical students to equip them with the skills on disease surveillance and outbreak preparedness.

With #Rwanda's most recent experience with #Marburg & #Mpox, work to combat epidemics doesn’t start or stop in one place. Yesterday, the same efforts were underway in @RusiziDistrict, another high-risk entry point, reaching communities with information, support, and pathways to care. Across these border districts, one thing stood out: strong community engagement + coordinated systems = faster, smarter response. #HealthSecurity

Border preparedness in @RwandaWest isn’t theoretical but something that has to happen in real time, given the sporadic & unpredictable movement of people. Today in @RubavuDistrict, HDI, alongside @IOMRwanda and @RBCRwanda, continued efforts to work directly with border communities to reduce the risk of Mpox and other fast-spreading diseases. From households to high-mobility areas, Community Health Workers (CHWs) were trained on clear, practical measures to prevent, detect, and respond early to epidemics. #HealthSecurity

Following Kagitumba One-Stop Border Post in @NyagatareDistr, the training on Wednesday continued in @KireheDistrict, at Rusumo One Stop Border Post. #PreventPandemics.

Strengthening cross-border preparedness to boost #HealthSecurity remains work in progress. This week, HDI, in partnership with @IOMRwanda and @RBCRwanda, continued working across Points of Entry to prevent and respond to Mpox and other epidemic-prone diseases. At Cyanika and Gatuna, Community Health Workers (CHWs) and field teams carried out household-level awareness, engaging border communities and key populations with practical information on prevention, early detection, and care-seeking.

Alongside community engagement, we continue convening cross-border stakeholders, including health teams, immigration officials, and partner organizations, to strengthen collaboration, improve information sharing, and align preparedness and response efforts.
