I get that you’re hurting, and I truly understand how deep that pain can run. But going through a difficult or abusive upbringing shouldn’t be used as a justification to lose your values or become something you’re not proud of. I say this not from a place of judgment, but from experience. I went through even worse..my parents treated me harshly. I was tied up and locked in a kitchen store, burned with a hot knife, beaten publicly in the streets while naked, even taken to school and humiliated the same way. I had a finger broken, my teeth damaged, and so many other painful experiences I can’t even fully explain. But despite all that, I never allowed it to turn me into a bad person. I made a conscious decision to be better than what I went through. Yes, with time, they realized their mistakes. They admitted they were too harsh. And in a way, they’re fortunate that I didn’t let their actions destroy who I chose to become. At the end of the day, your past may shape you, but it doesn’t have to define you.

In a sane country, Hydonni would be in a rehab now, & her parents in prison if her claims of abuse are true. Many Nigerians dnt see abuse as something that cn derail one’s life, bcos they were abused too, but unfortunately, we don’t all have the same threshold for emotional pain.
