Contra my suspicion of rewrites I do agree with this All rewrites are bad, some rewrites are useful

Instead of finishing my newsletter or responding to my DMs I am furiously tweeting *sigh*

I sucked at making my first omelette, too

A lot of the people I know who have experience with rewrites are now tech leads or managers or out of the industry

In the conversations we have with each other in the dog’s voice, our dog now refers to me and my partner as “the apes” Ex “Door closed! Apes fix! Fix with your ape magic!”

Variations on that theme happened a *lot* on Cloud Foundry and I should probably write about how & why Because in retrospect: there was a retro loop around each individual *team* but not the whole *system* and duh obviously

At the very least it’s taught me that if I’m maintaining an API I need to consider clients part of my maintenance surface Systems thinking strikes again, this is a classic example of “you can’t optimize a whole system by optimizing its pieces”

The whole CF API V2 vs. V3 thing continues to be just heart breaking

@andrewedstrom AFAICT yeah basically l Except now there’s this extra step where first they’re like “<new feature> won’t be in V2 because it’s hard to do there and we’re going to deprecate it anyway” “Oh wait it’s still harder to update the clients than to implement it in V2… okay… *sigh*”

@nota_bennett what's the status of it today? same as always, but now they're maintaining two apis instead of one?
