The UAE has announced a major building project proposed for the coast of Latakia, Syria. It includes 29,000 housing units and $18 billion. It would provide a major economic boost to Syria if it happens. Presumably Latakia would also be tranformed from a majority Alawite city to a majority Sunni city. But this demographic change is likely to happen with or without the EAU project. syrianobserver.com/uncategorized/…

Fascinating to read the barbaric yawps from 'heritage American' types in the comments--many with suspiciously Italian, Jewish, and Slavic-sounding names--shouting that the country that best exemplifies Enlightenment universalism and individualism is really all about blood and soil.

The Armenian community of Palestine was very small but existed for over 1,700 years. Yes, the majority came in the aftermath of the Armenian Genocide. They integrated very well into Palestinian society, and have a very strong reputation in Palestine. Had they attempted to turn Palestine into their ethnostate, things would've gone differently.
