Michael Tilson Thomas elicited wonderful performances from the various orchestras he led, whether the top-of-the-line professionals or the marvelously talented young musicians in the orchestra he founded, the New World Symphony. Rest well, my friend. leonardslatkin.com/on-the-passing…

Mozart died on this day in 1791. If you love his operas, you're sure to enjoy these two deep dives into Così fan tutte and and Le Nozze di Figaro with the brilliant George Jackson (links in comments). BOTH ARE FREE ACCESS. Enjoy!

Enjoying @bbcstrictly? Take a look at our FREE ACCESS interview with its musical director/arranger Dave Arch. He's given the song choices on MONDAY (or later), arranges the music BY EAR, and writes out all the parts BY HAND. Give that man a Knighthood! tinyurl.com/3cmbme75

'Believe in them, and to be delighted by them! Listening to serious music when you go to a concert and never dare to clap or laugh is OK. But it isn’t a class in musicology, it’s there to amaze you. It’s... good for you because it liberates you. Schumann is very liberating.'

So sad to hear that Sir Roger Norrington has left us. Such a unique, life-affirming character and musician. I think that he always felt like an outsider - which made him insecure, but also contributed to the freshness and originality of his music-making. Farewell and thank you.

So very sad to hear of the death of Sir Roger Norrington. Such a lovely man to speak with, and a great supporter of NftP. My thoughts are with all of his family, friends and colleagues. Xx

Heartbroken to hear Roger Norrington, my great hero, mentor, friend, and supporter has died at the age of 91. I’ll miss him dreadfully. Pictured here, many years ago, enjoying reindeer for lunch after rehearsals in Helsinki.
