Think Mainoo and Wharton can play as a 2 for United. How many years did Scholes - Carrick thrive as a pair? Can definitely see Carrick preferring a “Regista” as his 6 than an out and out ball winner. Looking at how the club did business last season I think the most likely outcome will be Baleba & Wharton coming in for the midfield spots, possibly a third with good experience and leadership if Ugarte is sold, hopefully after a brilliant World Cup. Maybe Ederson from Atalanta? Would love the possibility of Alphonso Davies as been mooted he’s being offered to PL clubs lately, how true that it, who knows? A squad with options down the left of Shaw, Davies and Dorgu could do good things.

He won a lot of balls. "I think there are some situations where he can be a little more open in the body position and drive a bit more through midfield with a little bit more confidence. @TheAthleticFC When you spend a 9 figure sum on a player you expect a certain level of performance. Dress it up however you like, but for over £100m you are buying someone you believe can influence games at the highest level, CL knockouts, PL title deciders. He has been nowhere near that level.

Florian Wirtz's first season at Liverpool, following his £116m move from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, has been difficult to get a handle on. He hasn’t been good enough to be described as a definitive success, but not bad enough to be written off as a complete flop. At club level, he’s still working it out, still looking for his place, both literally and figuratively. For his country, he looks like he has found it.
