@_utilitysports If opportunity cost refers to keeping/using the picks then, timing-wise, we maximized their value due to the PHX/NIL stuff. If you mean trading those picks for someone else, who? We needed shooting above all, not sure there was a better fit on a team willing to deal for picks.

@notpayingforx Agreed a coaching change will help, but it’s still the opportunity cost while knowing how much $ was going to be committed to Wagner, Banchero, Suggs that makes the deal not smart It’s not about Bane, but the context that Bane was being brought into

Paolo Banchero’s rookie extension kicks in now. The Orlando Magic have $154.8M committed next season to - Paolo Banchero - Franz Wagner - Desmond Bane - Jalen Suggs Anthony Black becomes extension eligible on July 1 It was always a huge overpay to trade as much as they did for Desmond Bane. Their nearest trade-able first is 2032. I still cannot believe they made the trade that they did Shooting without quality live dribble playmaking to support it isn’t that great. Bane’s inconsistencies in Orlando (despite his talent) is a sign of a roster issue external to Bane which is why I was pessimistic about how much he would uplift their offense immediately.

Trade Grades: Grizzlies: A+ Magic: C Memphis gets unrivaled draft capital for a second (maybe third) tier caliber of player. Grizzlies open up a ton of longterm flexibility both via trade and with their cap table Magic go all in on a guy who fits their team well. Not sure Bane lifts the offense enough to warrant this level of pick compensation and the financial strain Orlando is going to deal with now

There are going to be plenty of strong opinions about who the Magic should hire as their next HC but you absolutely should not discount how much even a replacement level coach would raise the ceiling.

@rajsinghchohan Last season he *was* one of the best midfielders in the league, which is why people were saying that at the time. He's been bad this season, which is why people are not saying it now.

MacAllister summary. Masses last season would have told you he’s one of the best midfielders in the league and better than a Guimarães because he won a league title. Means nothing, he was never that good. People overvalued someone like MacA, and undervalued Szoboszlai & Trent.
Raj Chohan@rajsinghchohan

To explain Alexis MacAllister, I need to refer to Bruno Guimarães. As an elite team, if you want to max out the potential of this role that MacA plays as a 2nd/3rd phase connector & progressive passer, Guimarães would be the minimum level of duelling, ground coverage & 360 degree press resistance you’d want in that role. And interestingly that is exactly who Edwards wanted after Wijnaldum left.

@pmmbasketball He took the 8 seed up 3-1 on the 1 seed and then the entire world watched the team collapse in his absence... and you think this would be an opportunity to buy low?

Mazzulla masterclass starting Garza out of nowhere, having him go -15 in 9 minutes, and *then* bringing in Queta, who was +9 in a 9 point loss.

Are Cade Cunningham and Scottie Barnes the best players from the 2021 draft class?

There are lots of established NBA players who put everything they have into the nonchalant gimmick and don't pull it off a fraction as well as VJ Edgecombe.

If there is a silver lining to keeping a coach around who was effectively fired six months ago, it's the outside chance that we hire Tiago Splitter.

Are we up 3-1 in the 1 vs. 8 series? Yes. Is it obvious that we should fire our coach and replace him with a guy whose current team wants to make him the lowest paid coach in the league? Yes.

The Orlando Magic just gave up an open three pointer to Cade Cunningham, the best player in this series, in a pick and roll with Ausar Thompson, a player you do not have to guard at all.

As funny as the screenshots from this Knicks/Hawks game are, none of them have a fraction of the juice that the Chris Paul pic has. Simply an all timer that will never be replaced.

@TheSteinLine Think the Clippers moving into the neighborhood makes this the right financial move, but there's no question it's going to be worse for the players and front office staff.

Worst officiating performance of the playoffs so far, but we can't miss 14 free throws in that type of game. Pistons were great boxing out and getting to loose balls. Isaiah Stewart is made in a lab for 2026 Mo Wagner minutes, get him out there.
