My gut is telling me to take Reid or Carels at 3? Am I crazy? Am I the only one who is slightly suspicious of Malhotra? I’m not saying he’s bad, but you’d be passing on a top pairing RHD. One has Makar upside, the other is skilled and has piss n vinegar. You can’t have enough dmen, especially ones that are RIGHT HANDED and projected to be 1st pairing guys. Trade down, no later than 5th overall, and try and recoup more assets. Take whichever of Carels Reid or Malhotra is left. Thing is I don’t see the Hawks or Rangers wanting to move up. Anything outside the top 5 is iffy. I think it’s those 5 guys in a tier of their own and then it drops off. If anything, you get creative and try to use your other picks to get another pick in the top 10. They HAVE to explore trading Hronek for picks and assets. If not this draft, by next draft. #canucks

Bang on. You just never know. Look at the 2020 draft. Lafreniere was the consensus 1st pick but there’s a handful of guys from that draft I’d rather take now that the dust has settled. We just need to ensure we are drafting best player available. It’s just our scouting has been soo spotty. This is why getting more kicks at the can help. We gotta be bad AND trade our assets for more picks. #canucks

“Losing” lottery doesn’t doom a teams success. Drafting Virtanen over pretty much anyone else in 2014, or Juolevi over Tkachuck in 2016, Podkolzin over Caufield or Boldy in 2019 are the kind of self inflicted wounds that kill you.

Haha right? It’s Hronek, minny 1st and maybe something as high as a 2nd rounder pick as well. I’d love Stenberg with Carels/Reid. I’m telling people to chill on Malhotra. You gotta be careful with the late risers… and next years draft is DEEP with centres. Theres no rush. Take best player available. Malhotra has risen only in the last 2-3 months. Best case is you land Duponte, but if you don’t, you should be able to nab a really good centre #canucks

If that’s the case, you make that trade ALL DAY! we honestly don’t need his contributions, it only makes us better and worsens are draft position for next year. We can replace his leadership in free agency. We gotta take advantage of his heightened value. Imagine getting 2/4 of those prospects I mentioned. That’s a true nitrous shot for the rebuild. #canucks

Do I think Dorion is someone that they should hire? No. Is he someone they are considering hiring? No. I think part of an interview process is talking to as many people as you can and listen to different opinions about your club. Doesn’t mean they are a front runner at all.

I don't think the #Canucks are ready for the backlash they'll face in this market if Pierre Dorion is hired as GM. That would legitimately be the last straw for a lot of fans with this team

It’s because somehow, scouts are stupid enough to look at one tourney to decide whether a player is good enough. Podz popped off at the Hlinka and was ranked super high early on, he began to drop and it was obvious there were other more skilled players but Benning didn’t want to pass on a guy who was “supposed to be in the top 3” Someone sitting at that table FOR SURE wanted Boldy over Podz but I guess they collectively decided to go the other way. I heard this the other day… The Canucks are dead last in games played for players drafted in the 2nd round or later over the last several years. Our scouting is literally some of the WORST in the NHL. #canucks

Drafting is hard and looking back is a pointless (but fun) exercise but the #Canucks taking Podkolzin and the next two wingers off the board being Caufield and Boldy hurts so so much. Boldy is a MONSTER

100% If we get 3rd, and the Canucks are set on him, you trade down to 5th at most to try and get him there. Worst case scenario is he’s gone, but now you can probably draft Reid or Carels plus you have an extra asset from the trade. I think most scouts would have those 2 dmen ahead of Malhotra. You gotta either draft BPA or trade down to get your guy if you have to reach for him. We can’t have another “draft for position” situation like Joulevi. #canucks

If the Canucks really want Malhotra, trade down to 5th at most. You’ll get him there, the odd chance he’s already gone, that would mean Reid or Carels would be available. At that point, you run up and draft one of them. Either way, you are getting some extra assets and a REALLY good player. DO NOT DRAFT HIM AT 2 or 3! I see the top 5 as: McKenna Stenberg Reid/Carels Carels/Reid Malhotra #canucks
