@acekatana @elite_gz yup, makes sense—can't do data driven recs for brand new stuff that has no data, so you need tricks to manage the "cold start problem" (though the quote in the title is not from an insider, but from a promoter's folk theory of how it works)

big first weeks seem to be important when it comes to getting algorithmic traction on streaming, so i could see major labels buying streams to help ensure high-priority singles get recommended. spotify has laid off a lot of curators, so maybe it’s necessary now
