This is terrible for social mobility. 14 is far too young to know whether a child is most suited to a technical or academic pathway. This is Labour all over - keeping everyone in their place.

@nsdmorrison I'd say it's worse, he didn't want to know. Any opposition was ridiculed and rejected, remember 'the blob' and simply dismissed as 'having low expectations'. He played to the Daily Mail crowd, sounding plausible and yet with horrendous consequences - thanks to Cummings!

Personally loathe what many Labour MPs are implying about knowledge in Burnham’s schools policy. The idea that working class kids shouldn’t have a knowledge rich education is the bigotry of low expectations - as is making curriculum hinge on local jobs This isn’t social mobility

The press are already turning. One little poll bump was inevitable after Burnham evaded press for a month. The bump is purely due to Starmer getting the boot. If this PM thinks the “plan is working”, he’s going to find out, very quickly, how vehemently the public disagree.

Andy Burnham is not serious about solving the housing crisis. Getting homes built means cutting red tape, cutting costs and backing the builders. Only the Conservatives have a plan to do that.

I think it was through arrogance coupled with ignorance.. he was so assured he was right & had no time for listening to experts! He did so much damage to the education system & narrowing the curriculum! He has a lot to answer for!

A good example of the danger of not only thinking your own experience is universal, but refusing to accept that other people could have a different experience. Gove was certainly the best at promoting the interests of his children, and of children from similar backgrounds.
