NDC communicator Gifty Enam Gbedevi has stirred controversy by claiming the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) was created out of political vendetta rather than genuine reform. Speaking on Adom FM, she argued that the Akufo-Addo administration established the OSP to target opponents, not to strengthen accountability. Her remarks follow a High Court ruling that the OSP cannot prosecute independently without Attorney-General approval under Article 88 of the Constitution. Gbedevi questioned the OSP’s effectiveness, citing high costs and limited results, and suggested Ghana should return to a strengthened Directorate of Public Prosecutions. China’s economy grew 5% year-on-year in Q1 2026, beating expectations despite global disruptions from the US-Israel war with Iran. The rebound was driven by manufacturing and strong car exports, though property investment continues to drag. Imports surged nearly 28% in March due to rising global energy costs, leaving China’s trade surplus at a one-year low of $50bn. Analysts warn that the conflict’s full impact, especially on exports and consumer demand, may show in the next quarter. To read more: nsem360.com/2026/04/17/chi…

Finance ministers, central bankers, and top financiers have raised alarms about Anthropic’s Claude Mythos AI model, warning it could expose vulnerabilities in global financial systems. The model, described as highly capable in cybersecurity tasks, has already identified weaknesses in major operating systems. While Anthropic has withheld public release, governments and banks are being given early access to test resilience. Transparency International’s Executive Director Mary Addah has cautioned against moves that could weaken the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), stressing that the Attorney-General must avoid curtailing its mandate. She argued that the OSP was deliberately created to strengthen Ghana’s anti-corruption fight, particularly where the Attorney-General’s Department had struggled with regime-related accountability. Weakening the OSP, she warned, would set Ghana back by eight years in its anti-corruption progress. To read more: nsem360.com/2026/04/17/mar…
