I find it to be perhaps the best thinking partner I’ve ever had but I do sometimes find myself using ChatGPT in ways that I think are unhealthy. Yesterday, I asked it to write down some intentions for me to pray for. Then I put the computer away and went on a walk instead. I’m glad it wasn’t around to write my marriage vows for example. It launched 19 days after my wedding. It’s important to hear what your soul is whispering to you.

today i ran an experiment that exposed what i believe to be one of the biggest threats to america right now i attempted to raise funding for a manufacturing company from silicon valley VCs and from PE funds the VC gave me 5 minutes on zoom and said this was "more of a PE deal" because it was "too capital intensive", and they had no comps to benchmark it to, so they left to hop on another zoom and give an AI saas company a $50M pre seed the PE fund had no one to answer. i tried two others same thing. finally got a hold of the fourth which said they "don't fund r&d" and "we buy ebitda", and suggested i talk to VCs about de-risking the tech first so i call back the VC and ask "what about tesla or spacex?" and they said "those aren't replicable, you're not elon" while funding the 47th AI email assistant this is the reality: america is being priced out of its own industrial future while companies get stuck in the valley of death between VC and PE this is why 50% of our founders don't care anymore about building hard tech / manufacturing, because VCs want guilt free 100x returns from the saas casino, and pe wants existing cash flows if we want to support reindustrialization and domestic manufacturing, we need investors who understand the middle ground exists, and real tech can enable massive empires otherwise the factories of tomorrow won't be american, they'll be chinese. but at least we'll have another b2b saas platform with a 40x revenue multiple

We are at the birth of synthetic life, at the precipice of uploading human consciousness into the machine. No time in human history has been more consequential and important. Perhaps akin to Industrial Revolution + Enlightenment + Printing Press all happening simultaneously.

ive been asking myself the question of what i would encourage my kids to study and what career to prepare for if they were to go to college next year? i still don’t have a good answer. seems to me every junior white collar job will get replaced by ai in soon, and most blue collar jobs some time after. fortunately i still have time to think about this more, but for parents with older kids, this is becoming existential.

@goodgamepodxyz @QwQiao @lmrankhan @QwQiao Local LLMs are very exciting to drop the marginal cost to zero which allows basic AI to be free & private. However, there will always be huge demand for cloud AIs for speed (many GPUs), discoverability, composability etc. Local LLMs need to be downloaded one by one.

@QwQiao lol true, lot of this in science. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cargo_cult However, I do love the precision of mathematics when communicating ideas. It forces conceptual clarity of thought regarding describing how different concepts are linked.

when i studied pure math in university we often had to use greek letters because some of the theorem-proofs involved so many variables that we ran out of english letters. but in almost all other instances whenever u see someone use greek letters it’s pseudo intellectual theater. they try to project sophistication when in reality the thing is mundane or outright retarded.

Good. 👏🏽 Manufacturing is very important for national security. Short term pain is aligned with our long-term gain. We just need an energy superiority strategy if we are going to win. China is approaching near Zero Energy cost by using their manufacturing superiority to build autonomous energy harvesting systems. I wonder if we can invent a Leapfrog (skip a generation).

@QwQiao The problem … its easy to get ChatGPT to agree with you especially if you ask leading questions. Would be nice to have a LLM judge but both parties should be able to make their case and we should have a Supreme Court of 9 top LLMs that deliver a verdict.

@shirishgone Nah The value that’s not a commodity is our consciousness and scraping the internet is a good start but limited.

@ntarun IMO. AI models trained on internet data will be a commodity available on AWS. Individual companies take those & fine tune them inside the moat without data leakage. AWS Bedrock. So the value is still preserved by the company, so owning the company shares is still the best bet

Employees applying AI at their workplace should demand shares of the company more than ever, as AI replaces them eventually, they will atleast have financial security in term of equity they hold and future cash flows, as company becomes lean & profitable.

Any company that adopts their AI including the company they currently pay for will give them a dividend. We are heading for the end of nearly all “jobs” due to AI. Mass layoffs are happening whether we like it or not. Only option left is to create a post AI economic system that aligns with human dignity and flourishing.

@shirishgone They should have shares in the AI they help create, not the company they work for.
