@0x5066 for icons I'd imagine you'd want something like the BeOS/Haiku or Bluecurve icons to match this style, which are simple but scalable vectors

ngl I never really understood why some people like the Windows Classic style THIS much and wish it was Still In Use I'm definitely nostalgic for it and have a soft spot for it, but not really in the sort of way where I wish this was still how UIs looked — it was very much a product of its time, brought on by the limitations of 90s hardware and designed for 90s displays, and it wouldn't really fly on the beautiful high-resolution displays we have nowadays. it was pretty much built around bitmap fonts and pixelated icons, but we live in a high-DPI world now (I'll just pretend your 1080p monitor doesn't exist) it was functional enough, but not really more than later iterations of the UI (besides the colour customisation), and there really wasn't that much to look at here particularly with the default and somewhat depressing grey colour scheme — it's all just a bit plain and also Very Very Square the main thing I think Windows did well in this era is consistency, as this was before they had 4283523 different UI frameworks and partial icon redesigns that never covered the whole operating system, so you wouldn't end up running into random UI elements and icons from completely different eras that feel out-of-place as you so often do nowadays Aero was really the peak of Windows UI imo, followed by Fluent (when it comes to desktops) — with Aero, I truly do wish that that was still how UIs looked, and you can probably tell from the clear influence it's had my own designs

but yea, if it looks like a simple getter.. it's not necessarily a simple getter! it may actually be an expensive ipc call underneath!

i do wonder where one could report silly things like This, given, uh, it took a while for past Steam-specific performance issues (merely *having* friends made the game slow) to be fixed as well, bweh

i don't think bo6 needs to call ISteamFriends::GetUserRestrictions 7000+ times per second, nor IClientFriends::GetFriendRelationship 1200 times (was helping @logan_mcgeeee investigate why warzone has horrible fps on steam but it's fine on game pass)
