Early Kitano had mixed extreme violence and slapstick humour unexpectedly exploding under the pressure of a hyper conformist society in a way that really gives credence to comparisons of Japanese and German national character. Amazing film, Kitano plays childish sadists so well.

It is a massive gaping fallacy threatening to swallow up all organized religions entirely that the only choices are "instrumentalizing religion for other ends" or "total and deliberate inward obscurantism with no outwardly verifiable or tangible signs of functionality needed."

I don't know this poster and it doesn't really matter but to the extent he is trying to instrumentalize religion it is sometimes helpful to remember that they've been trying to do that forever. This time is not different.

I'm currently at 3 books on WW2 production, one from the German side two from the American side. Ensure if I can find anything reasonably legible from any other nation.
A few more and I'll have many blog posts spawning inside me on this topic.
Building out a great collection so my kids are one day nerd snipped by this topic when they inadvertently pick up a book off my book shelf not knowing the path they've just set themselves down. Can't wait to have kids!

I've just published a blog post on the combat effectiveness of the V2 rocket, including very many fun anecdotes from its development and the history of rocketry. I've been reading V2 by Walter Dornberger, who was the major general heading the development of the V2 and working with von Braun, in the same manner Groves ran the Manhattan Project and worked with Oppenheimer. It's a great read for stories of the most advanced rocket in the world at the time, and what spawned the space race and every modern rocket. Very many good insights on ineffectiveness of German Armaments resource allocation and inefficient production, very useful to contrast this to the Manhattan Project and programs like production of the B-29 & -24. It illustrates very well why German never could have produced an atomic bomb as well. Next up is Albert Speer's memoirs, which I'm sure will shed more light on this topic.
