Not the “consumer social layer.” Not the 900th modular infra stack with a $2B FDV. Actual users only pay for three things: ➤ Making money ➤ Moving money ➤ Leveraging money Everything else is mostly financial cosplay subsidized by incentives and VC runway. Even crazier: Some of the highest-earning apps aren’t even fully “on-chain native.” Courtyard is selling tokenized Pokémon cards. GMGN is a Telegram trading bot. Phantom monetized distribution harder than most L1s monetized blockspace. Meanwhile, entire ecosystems with “thousands of builders” can’t produce one protocol earning meaningful cash flow. This is why the market is repricing toward revenue way harder this cycle. Because eventually people realize TVL is rented, users are mercenary, and volume without monetization is just expensive marketing. The gap between attention and actual business quality in crypto is still massive. Most protocols are not businesses. They’re temporary liquidity events with a governance token attached.
