Timing is critical for maximizing return for assets in trades. The Suns are guilty of this as well. It was clear KD wasn’t gonna work, but they held on another season, then past another deadline. They received Jalen Green as the centerpiece of the deal. Instead of extracting some value from Green by immediately flipping him, they held him. He now has negative win shares, the worst true shooting % on the team, and is owed $36M each of the next two seasons. After getting off of one negative asset in Bradley Beal, they repeated the same mistake during the same offseason.
