For four months, Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru has been acting President of our Party. During this period, she has steered the party well and kept the revolution alive. We're all very grateful for her dedication and service. As her tenure comes to an end, I am pleased to announce that Hon. John Baptist Nambeshe, Deputy President Eastern Region, will be taking over as acting President of the National Unity Platform. I wish him well and request all leaders and comrades to accord him the necessary support. #PeoplePowerOurPower

The Washington Post's Editorial Board is asking the American government to immediately review its relations with the Museveni dictatorship for rigging elections and oppressing Ugandans. WE CAN'T AGREE MORE! washingtonpost.com/opinions/2026/…

These documents, publicized under America's public disclosure laws, reveal that the Museveni regime is busy hiring foreign agents in Washington DC to white wash its battered image before the world. According to the documents, the regime is executing agreements with American lobbyists to engage American legislators, NGOs, the media, and others on its behalf. But it's too late because the truth about Uganda is already out and absolutely nothing the regime does can buy it back!

Four days have passed since the televised abduction of our Deputy President for the Buganda Region, Hon. Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, by gun-wielding men in plain clothes, aided by Uganda police and traffic officers. To this day, his whereabouts remain unknown. The police and the military have refused to account for him. Equally disturbing is the silence of many religious and cultural leaders in the face of such blatant lawlessness, thereby normalizing it. Where is Hon. Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi?

Earlier in the day, we gathered at our headquarters in Makerere Kavule for a press address where we discussed a range of issues. The party leadership condemned the regime for the persistent human rights abuses that have plagued the country. The manner in which our Deputy President was manhandled by the rogue regime security operatives who whisked him to a yet to be known place for yet to be revealed reasons was a matter of concern that the party leadership strongly condemned. Additionally, the party EMC spoke about the forthcoming LCI polls and urged the general public to participate overwhelmingly. The regime has been criticized for manipulating these polls after our teams noted that the regime leaning candidates are already bribing voters with hand hoes to manipulate their decision making on polling day. #PeoplePowerOurPower

Yesterday, our comrades in Munich, Germany held a peaceful protest denouncing the dictatorship of the criminal regime in Kampala, and calling for the release of all political prisoners. We are grateful to these comrades for raising awareness about the ongoing repression in Uganda. The struggle continues. #FreeAllPoliticalPrisonersInUganda

The abduction of our Deputy President happened in full view of cameras. The police was present as masked security operatives brandishing rifles pounced on Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi at a road block in Mpigi, bundled him to a waiting drone (Toyota Hiace) and whisked him away to an unknown destination. He had just secured his bail at the ICD court after braving over 6 months on remand at Kitalya prison. The procedure of detaining a suspect is well known under article 23 where one has a right to know why he or she is being arrested, which security agency is conducting the arrest, and detention at a gazetted facility for 48 hours. Suspects have a right to legal representation, access to medical care, protection from torture and the notification of family members or relatives. As the norm has become of late, none of all this has applied in the case of Hon. Kivumbi. Incommunicado detentions have become a common occurrence. #FreeAllPoliticalPrisoners

This morning, our comrades who are battling with trumped up charges of ‘unlawful drilling’ appeared before the Kanyanya Magistrates Court in Kawempe for a verdict on their bail. However, the presiding magistrate declined to grant them bail maintaining that their release would ‘compromise’ the investigations! These comrades have been on remand for a lengthy period and therefore qualify for mandatory bail on just this ground. It’s unfortunate that the would be temple of justice has been reduced to an enabler of persecution. #FreeAllPoliticalPrisoners

A short while ago, I spoke with Hon. Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, our @NUP_Ug Deputy President for Buganda Region. What a delight to see that after several months, he is out of unlawful detention without trial - at least temporarily. As everyone knows, Hon. Kivumbi never committed any offence. The criminals who attacked his home and murdered people are the ones who should be answering for their crimes - and I believe they will, at the right time. For now, we welcome him back, and the other comrades he was detained with. It is always a great delight to see that even in the midst of so much rot, there are still judicial officers who will rise above the pervasive intimidation and live to their oath.

Our Deputy President Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi and several of his co-accused have been granted cash bail this morning at the International Crimes Division Court at Wandegeya this morning. However, six of his co-accused namely, Ssewanyana Brian, Kayanja Calvin, Muwanguzi Brian, Owori Brian and Akankwasa Brian have been asked to submit fresh substantial sureties and their ruling has been deferred to next week. Amongst the bail terms set by court, Hon. Kivumbi is to pay UGX 10 million cash for his bail, while his co-accused have been ordered to pay UGX 1 million each. Hon. Kivumbi is to submit his passport and travel documents to court immediately and is not allowed to go out of the country unless he is cleared by court. He and his co-accused are to report once every month to the Butambala chief magistrates court and the ICD court every last Friday of the month. Once the state prosecution commits them to the High court, they shall stop appearing before the Butambala court. We are grateful to the legal team, party leaders, Members of Parliament, family, relatives, friends and the general public for demonstrating solidarity with these comrades who have braved this persecution since January of this year in the aftermath of the general election. #FreeAllPoliticalPrisonersInUganda
