A lot has been said about the 11th Parliament, and a significant amount of information about the Speaker Anita Among’s corruption has been revealed in the past days. But the LOP says it was a lot worse than people think. For those asking for @joelsenyoni’s side of the story, watch the full video here on the @NupPodcast YouTube channel. youtu.be/CQxuOWlYlFQ

Yesterday, we delivered another complaint to the DPP about the failure of his office to transfer the files involving our civilian comrades from military courts to civil courts as directed by the Supreme Court on 31st January, 2025. Most unfortunate that more than a year later, the fate of these citizens continues to hang in balance. They're neither before the military courts nor the civil courts. The civil courts keep telling us that they can not entertain their bail applications until their files are formally transferred by the DPP. Such a travesty of justice! #FreeUgandaNow

This morning, our top leadership interfaced with the 12th parliamentary caucus and had constructive engagements concerning our alternative vision. As the NUP, we believe that the parliament needs to regain its autonomy, which is not the case at the moment. There is no way a serving army officer should engage in partisan politics and endorse individuals to occupy parliamentary leadership. This alone depicts that we shall not have an independent parliament. In a quest to try to restore the image and functionality of parliament as envisaged in the constitution, we have fielded the Jinja South East MP Hon. Paul Mwiru as our official candidate for speakership of the 12th parliament. We shall engage like minded political parties to nominate the Deputy Speaker so that we have a joint-opposition voice in our struggle to rescue parliament from the prevailing captivity guised as a fight against corruption. #FreeUgandaNow

Amidst endless diversions by the regime to deflect citizens' attention from the recent electoral fraud and Uganda's deepening moral and institutional collapse, these words by retiring Judge His Lordship Stephen Egonda-Ntende at his farewell sitting yesterday could not have come at a better time. The Judge urged the judiciary to search deeply within itself for a soul. He boldly condemned the injustice and cruelty of continuing to jail comrade Waiswa Mufumbiro without bail beyond the constitutional limit, moreover on a minor offence, to the extent of denying him the chance to accompany his children to bury their mother, his wife, the late Edith Katende. Indeed, as the good Judge suggested, no Ugandan should ever be treated like this again by their own country!
