In continuing with our tradition, the leadership of the @NUP_Ug this evening held an iftar dinner with our Muslim brothers and sisters during this month of Ramadhan. Before then, prayers were held for our comrades who are troubled by different forms of persecution. Grateful to all our members and leaders who are ensuring that all activities continue to take place despite the state of fear and intimidation. WE SHALL OVERCOME.

Fellow Ugandans and friends of Uganda! Two months ago, Museveni yet again usurped the will of the people of Uganda and declared himself president on gunpoint. A day later, gripped by shame and fear, the military invaded my home to harm me, but I was able to evade them and go into hiding. Over the past two months, the regime has looked for me everywhere. They have raided the homes of many colleagues and fellow leaders, mounted roadblocks and spot checks of vehicles and motorcycles, arrested and dismissed the police officers assigned to my campaign, raided our home in the village, and kept my home under siege. Well, they couldn't find me because the people of Uganda sheltered me and protected me. Today, I am announcing my brief exit from the country to handle important work. Over the next few weeks, I will engage with our friends and allies all over the world before returning to Uganda to continue the push for freedom and democracy! For now, let's remain focused and united. #FreeUgandaNow

The criminal regime has today charged and detained a law student on internship, Gloria Laker, for taking a picture of the trumped-up charges they're plotting against me and sharing it online. The same regime has been consistently saying they're not looking for me, even as they continue to raid my friends' homes, mount roadblocks on public roads, and maintain the siege at my home. WE SHALL OVERCOME! #FreeUgandaNow

UPDATE: Regime security operatives have raided the home of my assistant, Comrade Najja Sherif. When they found he was not around, they abducted his wife instead after she told them she did not know his whereabouts. What a cowardly regime!

UPDATE: The criminal regime yesterday paraded before the Police Court, nine of the police officers who were assigned to our campaign! They were all dismissed from the Uganda Police Force with disgrace. Their crime? "Neglect of Duty". The criminal regime claims that they assisted me in escaping from my own home. Crazy! And yet, in fact, these professional police officers were withdrawn on 15th January, which was election day. By the time I left my home on the 16th when the military raided, they were no longer on duty. But now, they're being hounded, persecuted, and punished because the regime can not live with the embarrassment of not being able to locate me for two months. They're looking for anyone to blame. In any event, these officers were deployed to protect me and not to spy on me. But this is what Museveni has turned all institutions into! He expects them to do everything illegal, criminal, or immoral to sustain his criminal enterprise. Choosing to act professionally has landed very many civil servants in trouble. We understand that in addition to being dismissed, officer Kigenyi and another were taken back to detention at the police station at the Railway grounds and are still being interrogated! UGANDA WILL BE FREE. For now, we stand in solidarity with these officers, who, like many other Ugandans, have had to taste the wrath of a desperate regime in its evening. #FreeUgandaNow

In the 2021 election, the police officers who were attached to our campaign were attacked violently and subjected to all manner of brutality. After the election, several of them including their head, Afande Kato were arrested and detained for a long period. We learnt that they were questioned about our sources of funding, who I was meeting, what our plans were, etc. They were also interrogated about why they always sought to protect us from violent attacks by other sections of the police and military. Now, 2026, we have learnt that the officers who were attached to our campaign have also been arrested, and are being interrogated. These officers are usually targeted for doing their job with professionalism and patriotism. May we all stand in solidarity with them, and work for their freedom. #FreeUgandaNow

They're staging these roadblocks inconveniencing citizens everywhere in search for a man who's hiding in plain sight. One would think the Museveni regime learnt from its experience in the bush not to bother searching for anyone the citizens decided to hide, but clearly it didn't.

40 days ago, Museveni yet again usurped the will of the people of Uganda and declared himself winner of a sham election on gunpoint. The military continues to surround and occupy my home. Museveni’s criminal son continues to issue threats against me and other Ugandans opposed to his father's illegitimate rule. Yesterday, they did the unthinkable and blocked prayers at Lubaga Cathedral. Amidst all this, I am sending this message to all of us to continue being resilient and exercise the highest level of faith that our country will be free. I thank every Ugandan who has protected me from the evil criminals over the past 40 days. #FreeUgandaNow
