Today, we remember those who have lost their lives, been injured, or become ill because of their work. This day is about all workers. In policing, our members are mindful of the risks that can come with the job as they serve their communities. On the National Day of Mourning, the #NorthVan RCMP recognizes the realities faced by first responders and the lasting impact workplace tragedies have on families, friends, and colleagues.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of an OPP officer killed in the line of duty in Cobourg. Our heartfelt condolences go to the officer’s loved ones and to the OPP family. The RCMP stands with you during this difficult time.

The #NorthVan RCMP is pleased to confirm that the 27-year-old man reported missing on February 22 has been located, and he is safe and sound. The RCMP thanks the media and public for their assistance.

Wednesday night officers stopped this L driver travelling 175 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Hwy 1. Their excuse for the speed? Because they were in a rush to get home. That rush earned them an immediate impound, a hefty ticket, a likely licence suspension, and a long walk back to reality. Choices like this put their life, and the lives of others, at serious risk.

This week we said farewell to Romeo after 25 years with the @CityOfNorthVan Facilities Department at the North Vancouver RCMP detachment. Known for his dedication, strong work ethic, and ever-present smile, Romeo was one of the many behind-the-scenes staff who worked tirelessly every day to support our team. Thank you for your years of service, Romeo, and all the best in your well-earned retirement.

We came together last night at @seymourgolf to recognize the people who give their time to support our community, our Road Safety, Block Watch, and Auxiliary Program volunteers. The 74-year-old man who was reported missing yesterday has sadly been found deceased. His death is not believed to be suspicious. The North Vancouver RCMP extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who are grieving this loss. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time. 💔

Five complaints over weekend highlight growing concerns over illegal e‑dirt bikes. Officers have taken an education‑first approach, as these bikes are relatively new, but enforcement will be increased for those who repeatedly violate the rules. Link to release: bit.ly/48OIzf1

Do you or your kids own an electric motorcycle, also known as an e-dirt bike? These vehicles are NOT street legal. We’ve received reports of youth riding them on public roads, often in a dangerous manner that puts themselves and others at risk. Know the rules before you buy. Scan the QR code for more details.

This is one example of what not to do after buying your first vehicle. After the purchase, a learner driver was found driving without a qualified supervisor, without displaying an “L” sign, and with their rear licence plate improperly displayed. They were stopped by a traffic officer and ticketed for all three offences. A reminder that learning the rules is just as important as learning to drive.

Tuesday night, officers stopped a Mercedes driver travelling 160 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Highway 1 near the Westview Drive exit. The driver was issued a $483 fine and their vehicle was impounded. No excuse justifies this kind of speed. Saving a few minutes is never worth the risk… especially when you end up parked on the side of the road a lot longer.
