@PeakSeattle "Dan Evans would be considered a fascist by today's Democrats." That's provably false. Dan Evans is loved and appreciated by Democrats around Washington State. NPI honored him when he passed away and continue to celebrate his legacy. He was a very progressive Republican.

Joel Connolly is a washed up reporter with the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. The P-I has been basically defunct for many years, and was one of the first major papers in the country to go an online-only format due to declining sales. Connelly, who has sadly been reduced to little more than a keyboard warrior these days, came out with a hit piece today against the state GOP. Published by the Northwest Progressive Institute, his basic premise is that the GOP is in decline here. Yeah, no shit, Sherlock. It's been that way for years. Democrats have basically owned the state for the last four decades. And lately we've been learning the hard way how bad it is to give one party so much power. But it's his reasons for that demise that I find questionable. He leads off calling the whole party a "fascist cult," and then reminisces about when Dan Evans was governor. Let's be honest, Joel. Dan Evans would be considered a fascist by today's democrats. Connelly goes on to attack Ari Hofman, Jim Walsh, Brandi Kruse, Jason Rantz and Jonathan Choe. He mentions the trans related ballot measures that we'll be voting on this November, asserting that they call for government intrusion. No, Joel. It's been the government that's been intruding all along, by denying parents the right to know what's going on with their child in school and by forcing girls to accept boys on their teams and in their locker rooms. Connelly implies that only radical right-wingers would support these measures when at, least on the national level, polling has consistently shown that 70% to 80% of the American public disagrees with the official democrat position. The trans issue actually played a significant role in handing the election to Trump. I wonder if Mr. Connelly could enlighten us as to what specific argument it was that finally clicked and compelled him to agree that men can magically become women. Because as old as he is, I guarantee he didn't use to think that way. He goes on to mention the newly passed income tax, saying, "Only a fraction of the state’s population would pay it." What was that PT Barnum quote again? Even democrats tacitly admit they're going to lower the threshold on it. Finally, Connelly chastises Jonathan Choe because he "incessantly films down-on-their-luck folk," a soothing, compassion inducing term for thieving junkies. Connelly must be oblivious to the fact that the intertwined trifecta of drug addiction, homelessness and crime is literally the biggest election issue year after year in our city and state. Yet the mainstream media has dropped the ball on covering the story. Not many journalists have the stones to go into dangerous and squalid drug encampments like Choe has. And they've been totally unwilling to expose the grift and fraud in our local homeless industrial complex, and the hugely expensive disaster that is Housing First. People would have no idea how bad Plymouth Housing is, for example, if it wasn't for Jonathon Choe. Republicans and conservatives here really need to put forth better candidates and stop with the infighting. But for the most part they're right on the issues. tinyurl.com/49uraw7r

Before I left Canada, I was a zero-asset college graduate. I left because I knew I would never rise above low middle class if I stayed there. Fast forward 30 years, Canada is now poorer than Alabama. I have made it, but my advice to my son is to not attempt to rise in this state for the same very reason. So it’s not just the ultra reach who will leave, it’s also the ones who have any hope of becoming rich one day. That’s the real travesty. Of course, I will go where he goes, and I will take my wealth and spending with me. With the $50K a year I'd be required to pay WA in this unconstitutional income tax, I can rent a condo in Miami and live there effectively for free. I will not pay a penny in income or capital gains taxes to the state of WA on general fucking principle. What is really unpatriotic is to put this state on a path to universal impoverishment, Canada style. You don't understand the second and third order effects of your ideas and policies, else you'd be rich too.

1) Only the highest slice of income faces the top federal rate 2) Only income above $1 million will face the new state tax 3) Effective tax rates are much lower than marginal rates 4) Washington still won't have the highest rate 5) It's patriotic to be a taxpayer & pay your dues
Jonathan Turley@JonathanTurley

Democrats just approved a 9.9 percent tax on income above $1 million. If you stay in Washington, you’ll pay a combined rate with the top income tax (37 percent) of over 46 percent. Washington will have the highest tax rate in the United States...jonathanturley.org/2026/03/12/was…

Key read: "DOJ — which had been known as a place where some of the best lawyers would take a pay cut to work at, because the opportunities for exciting, important work were so plentiful and the colleagues were of such high quality — is not DOJ any longer." lawdork.com/p/doj-is-barel…
