@TheCADInvestor Spot on brother! I know way too many people in their 20s and 30s who ask me whether they should use an RRSP or TFSA Then they end up leaving their money sitting in a high-interest savings account.

The more I learn about Canadian personal finance, the more convinced I am most people are not “bad with money.” They just were never taught the game. They were told to save, not INVEST. They were told to trust the bank, not how to understand fees. They were told RRSPs are good, not WHEN they’re good. They were told the TFSA is a savings account, not a tax-free wealth-building BEAST. They were told buying a house is the goal, not how to build liquid assets too. Canada gives people some incredibly powerful tools. Most people just learn about them 10 years too late.

@TheCADInvestor Exactly. If people learned this stuff when they were younger people would be so much farther ahead than they are right now.

@madatgod @taj1944 @sekeresandprice It is called being respectful and a decent human being. The right doesn't know how to do that. And because of this the right has no place in this society.

Female at work saying unironically that it's "creepy" that a 31 year old coworker was flirting with a 28 y/o coworker because it's "crossing the decade line". What even are relationships in 2026? Everyone has made up more random rules than there are laws in the Old Testament.

Exactly. The dude wrote a novel crashing out about his panicking about getting the “side eye” from every at work, and making this an excuse for men never talking to women. Then he calls me a feminist for calling him out on it. If you can’t handle a verbal confrontation with an old woman at work, This is weakness.

I don't think you understand just how damaging that kind of thing is. On a personal level, some people are going to look at him with side eye now, even though he did literally nothing wrong. Likely including his boss, and other people that are essential to his future at his job. He's going to be afraid to talk to girls in the future, and girls are going to wonder why he won't talk to them in the future. On a more selfish personal note, this now sets a precedent in the workplace, that if a guy like me who's even a couple years older than him, talks to a perfectly adult woman who happens to be a few years younger, now I might get side eye. Which now forces me to be more cautious as well, even if I'm on good terms with all of the women here and my bosses. On a societal note this is how you end up with less marriage, this is how you end up with guys not asking girls out, this is how you end up with girls being confused why guys ignore them. Plus you end up with girls getting with scumbags, because they're the only ones that still dare talk to them. And then they think every man is a narcissist because most normal guys won't talk to them. On a singular instance, it sounds like some unimportant little words. In the bigger picture it is civilizational damage that can bring down a society. This is exactly why we used to have strict social conventions, that spelled out what was acceptable and unacceptable, and everybody was taught them from a young age. So nobody got in trouble for normal activity, and everyone knew how to approach one another.

@MelodramatikPic @amelia_tweetz Paying rent means nothing because you are not taking a risk by paying it. When you take on debt you are taking on risk. They need to see your risk history. And to make sure you have enough income to cover all your risks.

@amelia_tweetz Need proof you can afford the mortgage. We see you make enough but we need proof. How do you get proof if you don’t have a mortgage? But you’ve been paying rent at the same or higher for 12mo? And then your credit has to be 580+ but they care more about the income?!

It’s simple, won’t happen. At least not a meaningful raise. The liberal government feeds off the people who don’t pay tax so none of that demographic contributes to a TFSA and they view those who do as “rich” instead of fiscally responsible. It serves the liberals nothing to raise it as it won’t increase their votes and will only decrease the amount collected in capital gains. They pander to the leaches, always will.

The TFSA limit feels way too low. It started at $5,000 in 2009. It’s now $7,000. Meanwhile, the cost of everything has gone vertical. Rent. Homes. Groceries. Childcare. Taxes. The TFSA is one of the few accounts that actually helps Canadians build real wealth tax-free. A $7K annual limit does not feel aggressive anymore. It feels outdated. Should Canada raise it?

I don’t doubt MAID has many safeguards, but could a hospital administrator, unbeknownst to the medical staff, pressure someone and their family? People are claiming it’s impossible. Can’t happen. Forgive me if I’m far more suspicious. If there is any possibility whatsoever that the claim is true, it should be aggressively investigated. Let’s prove it right or wrong before we jump to conclusions either way, because ANY policy or program is subject to possible abuse. Plus, I dare say it’s the responsibility of government to both defend whistleblowers and fully investigate their claims.

2 yrs ago when I had surgery for cancer, the lady in the next bed was visited by a hospital administrator she had not met before, not her doctor, who stood at the end of her bed and said she had no option but to have MAID. The woman said “Absolutely not! I plan to get up and dance again”. The administrator then started to argue with her saying she had no choice but MAID without explaining why. The woman said “Well I’ll talk to my family when they come on Monday.” The administrator replied “They’re coming on Monday? Good, I’ll talk to them”. She headed off the family on Monday before they saw her and they came to our room primed to convince her she had to have MAID according to the hospital. She then argued with the family that she didn’t want it. During the day she was firm but at night when they weren’t there she cried. Ultimately they convinced her and started preparing a party for her to say goodbye to all her friends. So sad. And it has made me more skeptical about MAID procedures.
André Picard@picardonhealth

In the first 10 years of MAID, more than 100,000 Canadians have averted unnecessary suffering at end-of-life. That's cause for celebration. Assisted death has become a significant ritual, not a 'slippery slope,' by @picardonhealth theglobeandmail.com/gift/0fc7a9238… via @GlobeDebate

@M_Johnston1 @CailinasEirinn This is why many oppose programs like MAID. How naive does someone need to be to think assisted suicide will never be abused by anyone at any time? The one poster calls you a liar and reported you. How do they know what you wrote didn’t happen?

Great! Thanks! Ottawa General Hospital. I can give them the exact dates, and I’ll go to the hospital again to confirm the room number. So they’ll be able to confirm the woman’s name. My husband can also confirm what happened. And other people who visited me during the week that I was in the same room with the woman.

@Noahpinion Nothing wrong with any of those things. Especially the productivity thing. We are a culture where we do not value this and don't value working ourselves to the bone for the ownership class. We want a slower pace of life.

Canada will not have civil conflict. It has the opposite problem -- it's too nice to have a serious open debate about its real problems: * Low productivity growth * Inability to retain talent * Provincial fragmentation * NIMBYism * The perverse incentives of MAID
