I graduated in ‘99 and had an amazing college experience. Being from the northeast no one I knew applied or went to any school south of the mason Dixon. Now it seems everyone’s kids are going south. I’m not sure if it’s just the weather but other things like politics, sports, social life etc probably weigh in too. In the case of Burlington, I go back with my family and every year it gets worse. Homelessness, violence(watched a homeless man and woman brawl on church st and everyone just walked by like it was no big deal), empty storefronts on church(probably 60% occupancy), graffiti, give it the feeling of a dystopian movie. It’s nothing like it was 25 yrs ago and there doesn’t seem to be anything done about it which is always the case because the activists, politicians, etc would have to admit fault in their policies and what they’ve caused.

The north is dying out. No one wants to go there anymore. UVM used to be one of the most desirable state schools in the country. Now Burlington, VT, is a decrepit and filthy place filled with homeless drug addicts. Why go to UVM when you can go to state school in the South?

The better question is if Kirby is in because of his career being cut short why is Donnie Baseball not in. Bernie is definitely not a hall of famer. To me to be in the HOF you should be one of the best in the game for a good stretch and also have the career stats to back it up. Bernie wasn’t even close to the best player on his team.

Why is Kirby in the HOF but Bernie isn’t?

I don’t know how NIL works honestly. Was under the impression that a certain amount is decided before the yr begins. If they were told they were going to get x and didn’t get anything then that’s messed up. If they were just scholarship players as freshmen and before this yr started weren’t supposed to get money to retain them then that’s a different story. It seems the ncaa has a big problem in general with transparency in regards to nil money.

I assume Becker let a lot of stuff go to make it work

A Lamborghini?! A little much no? He’s played 3 yrs of college ball now and I’m pretty sure he would have proven his worth in practice or games by now. UVM hasn’t really let any players get away that went on to do anything meaningful at any other school or level. This may be the first yr that changes. It’s not good to hear that locker room problems may be the reason. Hopefully they can build a team around Gus who everyone seems to love….

@_GLoVeVT1Cats @CatamountCntry @nychogr It’s ignorant to assume every player responds the same coaching style. Times have changed and it’s safe to say Becker’s coaching style needs to evolve aswell. Skipper is a Lamborghini and we forced him to drive like a Honda it’s quite obvious why he didn’t excel in Burlington.

@nychogr @vermontballnews Such a talented team with veterans like Hurley and Long definitely seemed to underperform. But I don’t know if we’re ever going to be able to meet the standards of the past if guys don’t want to stick around.

Honestly this feels like a few yrs building up to this. Been thinking about it a lot and haven’t been able to put a finger on it, still really can’t but the way this team has performed the past two seasons has felt like something has been rotten in Denmark. Last yrs team on paper should have been better than the prior’s. They only lost deloney and veretto, who basically missed the second half of the season and yet they were terrible in the non conference when everyone was healthy. Then this yr they had a ton of talent and never really put the pieces together. I don’t know if it’s just the nature of cbb these days where kids really don’t care and see everyone getting money and they bolt but the charm of being a catamount and winning doesn’t seem to matter at all. I fear this “dynasty” is coming to an end and without money, resources or a state of the art gym it’s only going to happen sooner.

The school has one of two choices to make and they better do it soon. Either build the new gym or find a way to up their NIL. I think the former is an easier sell since the state could/should get involved since there is nothing currently in the form of a “civic” center. If neither happens I fear this program will throw away everything it has build over the past 25 yrs and return to the world of mediocrity. For all that is holy DO something!

Wesley Bryan and I got into a heated argument about what the majority of people’s favorite club is. I will stand firm and say it’s a 7 iron. There’s something about that club that’s very different than an 8 and 6. Wesley said a driver or 60 degree is the majority favorite. Who’s right here?

I think more than anything the biggest handicap in this situation is not playing the course a bunch of times beforehand. I’m a low single digit but whenever I play a course for the first time you can add 4-6 strokes easy. Throw on top of it Augusta and all of the intricacies my guess is it would be a lot worse plus the extra yardage, pressure etc I’d say no chance. I’ve also walked it several times and it’s way more hilly than tv can ever do the justice of showing.

Here was the debate last night: non tournament tested club golfer with low single digit GHIN starts the masters at -100. Does he win? My answer is a strong no chance.
