Story time!!! 🤦♀️
There was this girl in camp, she’s Yoruba and we stayed in the same hostel but different rooms. I was in Room 2, she was in Room 1.
I’m naturally someone who minds her business, especially in crowded places like camp. We’re humans… misunderstandings are inevitable, so I try to avoid unnecessary drama.
One day, I was exempted from camp activities because of my injured toes and was assigned as hostel police. Funny enough, this same girl was also exempted.
As instructed by the camp commandant, I went to the hostel and picked a chair in front of her room to sit on. Mind you, there were plenty chairs both inside and outside, and we were not allowed to take chairs from the pavilion.
Immediately I sat down… wahala started 😭
She began shouting, telling me to return “her chair.” I calmly explained that I was on duty and would return it when I was done. I even suggested she use one of the other chairs available.
Ewoooo 😩 she didn’t hear anything again!
She kept shouting, saying the other chair was for her roommate even though she had two chairs. I just kept quiet because honestly… with camp food in my stomach, I wasn’t ready for that kind of stress 😭
Her shouting drew attention, and female officers came. We both explained, but she still insisted I must drop the chair. What made her mad the more was the fact that i wasn’t answering her. She kept on shouting telling the officers I’m not answearing her. Eventually, the officers asked me to give it to her and use theirs instead.
I gave her the chair, but refused to take theirs.
You won’t believe she still continued insulting me 😏
At that point, I told her to drop the insults and come if she wants to fight, we’ll both go home 😂 (because fighting is prohibited in camp).
Not long after, one official came and packed ALL the chairs from her room back to the pavilion 😭😂 I just started laughing. The embarrassment was real!
Later, her roommate told me she had been having issues with almost everyone in the room especially those that were igbos since camp started.
That moment just made me realize… we still have a long way to go.
Nigeria is made up of different tribes—Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, and even smaller tribes that most people aren’t aware of like the Bahumono🌝
**At the end of the day, it’s about understanding, respect, and unity 🇳🇬

Life didn’t stop when NYSC gave me a two-month extension. 🫠
I really thought I would finally pass out with my batch in December. Even took pictures that morning. Only to get to the queue and realize my certificate wasn’t there. My vision was just blurry, hot tears for days.😂
Today, I can say I’m done with my service year.
Serving in Bauchi State, Northern Nigeria left me with so many experiences and stories for days. I got to meet so many amazing and kind people. It has definitely been my most rewarding but equally trying year yet.
One of the amazing things God can do is place you in an environment that opens your eyes to your own shortcomings and weaknesses. Not to shame you, but to grow you. For me, it became an opportunity to be shaped into the version of myself He would have me be for the next phase of my life.
I can say for a fact is that there was no mistake in where God wanted me to serve. He wanted me there in that season. And I’m grateful I chose to trust in His good and sovereign will for my life over my emotions.
Ps: The last slide was one of those days. I used to look forward to bike rides so I could cry my eyes out without anyone consoling me 😂😂. Why I recorded myself? Cause I thought I still looked pretty regardless 🙂↔️
