SCHOOL LIBRARY RECEIVES A FACE-LIFT, GETS EQUIPPED WITH MODERN BOOKS BY A CORPS MEMBER Pure joy and deep gratitude spread across staff and students of Universal Basic Education School, Rumuokwurusi, Port Harcourt as a Corps Member, Joseph Samuel Anya, RV/25B/1819 renovated the school's dilapidated library and further equipped it with modern books. The project is part of his commitment to give back to society through the personal Community Development Service (CDS) project. Inaugurating the project, Rivers State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Moses Oleghe, represented by the Assistant Director Community Development Service, Dr. Promise Chinnah lauded the Corps Member for his positive impact at improving the "quality of teaching and learning" in the school through the project and, by extension, giving the young students a bright and beautiful future ahead of them through sound education. Mr. Oleghe thanked the Corps Member for his thoughtfulness to give back to his PPA and society at large, noting that what the Corps Member has done is the spirit behind the NYSC Scheme's Community Development Service as a cardinal programme. The State Coordinator concluded by admonishing the school's management to "own the project" and ensure its maintenance and good use at all times. In a remark, the Head Teacher of the School, Mrs. Nwenenda Orianwo, on behalf of staff and students, appreciated Corps Member Joseph for his good gesture and described him as a "blessing to the school." She further described the Corps Member as a person who works with "intentionality, good attitude, positive energy, discipline, and commitment to make positive impact at all times." On his part, the Corps Member, Joseph Samuel Anya, stated that he chose to execute the project because he saw the passion to read and excel by the students but lacked a conducive structure to do so, as the library was in a state disrepair and without modern books relevant to the operational school's curriculum. He concluded by noting that with the availability of a fully equipped library and books, the students can now read in a conducive environment and develop their knowledge and personal growth. He thanked the State Coordinator for approving the project as well as stakeholders who sponsored the project. Equally, he was very appreciative of staff and students who showed him love, care, support, and family bonding. #Ends

NYSC, NANS TO DEEPEN COLLABORATION The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has assured the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) of the Scheme's commitment to sustaining a strong and mutually beneficial partnership. General Nafiu gave the assurance when members of the National Executive Council of NANS paid him a courtesy visit at the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja. The Director-General noted that NANS has consistently supported the Scheme since its inception, adding that the NYSC remains open to strategic collaboration with the students' body whenever the need arises. He emphasised that the primary objective of the NYSC is to foster national unity and integration, stressing that the Scheme could not have effectively discharged its mandate without the support of Nigerian students, as every undergraduate is a potential Corps Member. General Nafiu stated that the Scheme remains focused on strengthening its Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to complement the Federal Government's efforts at tackling unemployment and promoting self-reliance among Nigerian youths. He also urged NANS to remain proactive as a critical stakeholder in public policy by contributing meaningfully to the sustenance of Nigeria's democratic process. Speaking further, the Director-General disclosed that NANS would be actively engaged in the pre-mobilization process and other stages leading to the Orientation Course, noting that the association is well positioned to provide valuable support because of its close relationship with students across tertiary institutions. He further assured the NANS leadership that the ongoing reforms within the Scheme, particularly its continuous digital transformation, would reposition the NYSC for greater efficiency and improved service delivery. Earlier, the Senate President of NANS, Comrade Moses Ikeabuchi, said the delegation visited the Director-General to familiarise themselves with his leadership and explore areas of collaboration, particularly in Corps mobilisation, for the benefit of both organisations. He pledged the association's continued support for the Scheme, assuring that NANS would remain a constructive voice on issues of national importance affecting Nigerian students and prospective Corps Members. Also speaking, the National Vice President of NANS, Comrade Sadique Zango, commended the NYSC for its commitment to the welfare and accommodation of Corps Members. He appealed for closer liaison between the Scheme and students before mobilisation to ensure a more seamless orientation and service experience.

The League of Like Minds International Club, Asaba, has donated five industrial wheelie bins to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Delta State, to strengthen waste management and promote environmental sanitation at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Issele-Uku. The presentation took place on Wednesday, 15th July, 2026, during a courtesy visit to the NYSC Delta State Coordinator, Mr. John Vandi T. Kwaghe. Leading the delegation was the President of the League of Like Minds International Club, Dr. Christopher Daniels, JP, accompanied by the Delta State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Odinigwe Daniel Odigie, and other members of the club. He noted that a clean and healthy environment is essential for the well-being, morale, and productivity of Corps Members and camp officials, expressing confidence that the wheelie bins would significantly improve waste disposal within the orientation camp. Receiving the donation on behalf of the NYSC, the State Coordinator, Mr. John Vandi T. Kwaghe, expressed profound appreciation to the League of Like Minds International Club for its thoughtful and timely intervention. He described the gesture as a demonstration of corporate social responsibility and community partnership, adding that it complements the Scheme's ongoing efforts to maintain a clean, healthy, and conducive orientation camp environment. Kwaghe assured the donors that the wheelie bins would be deployed immediately to strategic high-traffic locations across the camp to enhance effective waste collection and disposal. He further called on other corporate organisations, philanthropists, and public-spirited individuals to emulate the club's generosity by partnering with the NYSC in providing facilities that will improve the welfare of Corps Members and camp infrastructure. The NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area, accommodates thousands of Corps Members and camp officials during every 21-day Orientation Course. NYSC BENUE STATE COORDINATOR VISITS DSS, STRENGTHENS COLLABORATION ON CORPS MEMBERS' SECURITY The Benue State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Veronica Garba, has paid a courtesy visit to the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Benue State Command, Mr. Vincent Aitsebaomo, to strengthen collaboration on the security and welfare of Corps Members in the state. Speaking during the visit, Mrs. Garba congratulated the Director on his assumption of office and commended the DSS for its prompt response to security issues involving the NYSC. She explained that the visit was aimed at reinforcing the long-standing partnership between both organisations to ensure the safety and well-being of Corps Members during the Orientation Course and throughout their service year. The State Coordinator also appreciated the DSS for consistently deploying professional personnel to provide security at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Wannune, and appealed for the Service's continued support to sustain the success of orientation activities. In his response, the Director, Mr. Vincent Aitsebaomo, a Fellow of the Defence College, stressed the importance of security consciousness among Corps Members. He advised them not to wear the NYSC uniform while travelling and urged them to always inform someone of their travel plans, use only registered commercial vehicles, and avoid night journeys. Mr. Aitsebaomo also expressed concern over the growing incidence of drug abuse among young people, warning that it could jeopardise their future employment prospects. He called on the NYSC to intensify its campaign against drug abuse among Corps Members. He further recommended that Local Government Inspectors identify schools and establishments located outside urban centres and deploy Corps Members to such locations in groups to enhance their safety and provide mutual support. The DSS Director reaffirmed the Service's commitment to providing security personnel and strengthening its partnership with the NYSC in safeguarding Corps Members across Benue State. The visit concluded with both organisations renewing their commitment to deeper collaboration in promoting the security, welfare, and overall well-being of Corps Members serving in Benue State.

NAFIU CHARGES CORPS MEMBERS TO EMBRACE ENTREPRENEURSHIP The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has urged Corps Members to embrace entrepreneurship and vocational skills as pathways to lasting financial independence. General Nafiu gave the charge during an interactive session with the 2026 Batch 'B' Stream I Corps Members deployed to Niger State undergoing their Orientation Course at the NYSC camp in Kubwa, Abuja, following ongoing renovation of the Niger State NYSC Camp, Addressing the Corps Members, the Director-General urged them to take full advantage of the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, describing entrepreneurship as an indispensable tool for navigating today's economic realities. He advised them not to rely solely on their monthly allowance or the prospect of securing white-collar jobs after national service, but to acquire practical vocational and entrepreneurial skills capable of generating sustainable income. General Nafiu noted that the service year provides a unique opportunity for them to develop marketable skills in vocational trades offered under the SAED programme. He further encouraged the Corps Members to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset, develop multiple streams of income and position themselves as employers of labour capable of contributing meaningfully to the nation's economic development. The Director-General also advised the Corps Members to build enduring friendships during the Orientation Course, noting that relationships formed during national service often blossom into valuable professional, business and leadership networks. He urged them to maintain discipline throughout the service year, take advantage of opportunities for personal growth and continuous learning, and channel complaints through established NYSC administrative procedures rather than unofficial platforms, assuring them that genuine concerns would always receive prompt attention. General Nafiu further reminded the Corps Members to uphold the core values of the Scheme by demonstrating integrity, responsibility and commitment at their various places of primary assignment. Earlier, the Niger State Coordinator, Mrs Martina Shuaibu Ibrahim, informed the Director-General that 783 Corps Members, comprising 296 males and 487 females, had been successfully registered for the orientation course Ibrahim stated that the Orientation Course had progressed smoothly through the collaborative efforts of the NYSC, Federal Capital Territory Secretariat and camp officials.
