It either stands on its own or it doesn't. But damn if sometimes the backstory and context provided by such supplements don't extend and enhance the work before you. Coldie's menagerie of x-rayed hands and the inky blackness that devours them over and over in this piece prompt fascinated meditations in isolation — but the story shared by the artist alongside the work serves to refract everything into both a specific remembrance of a (very chaotic) time and a broader reflection on what artists use art for.
