Following our presentation to the Houses of the Oireachtas on behalf of the Child Safeguarding Coalition, we set off on the noble mission of posting copies of these books to Minister for Education Hildegarde Naughton and Minister for Children Norma Foley.
Along the way, we happened to meet Ruth Coppinger. Seeing a rare opportunity for dialogue, we tried to raise our concerns about what we view as sexually explicit and ideological material being presented to children. Unfortunately, the conversation was over almost before it began.
Rather than discuss the issue, she cheerfully informed us that she "I cannot wait." When I mentioned a couple of the topics being taught to children, the response suggested that curiosity was abundant, but engagement was in shorter supply.
On the bright side, it's always encouraging to meet a public representative so eager to add to their reading list- even if hearing constituents' concerns doesn't make the same list.
