Makes life easier to have fewer irrational fears. Admirable.

@Clam_Fan @sciencegirl Most of these are animal loving volentiers who do this to ensure that snakes are not harmed. They catch the snakes and leave them in their natural habitat.

@Clam_Fan @sciencegirl The dark opening the rescuer presented looked like an escape route for the snake. Instead of attacking the guy, it just tried to get away. With rare exceptions, snakes don't attack people if they see any alternative. Don't want a snake to bite you, simply don't fuck with it.

@Voxstrigidae @Clam_Fan @sciencegirl Not so fast. Snakes can control how much metabolically expensive venom they inject when they bite. Some (many?) bites are dry or sublethal. King cobras are intelligent and large ones relatively confident. They may try to escape with minimal hostilities, hence less risk.

@Clam_Fan @sciencegirl None of the above. They do it for FREE - they do it because they don't want that beautiful snake to be killed out of fear. Yes, it is dangerous, King Cobras inject enough venom in a single bite to kill an adult elephant, so death is assured in <10 minutes for humans.
