The core payment infrastructure in Africa requires urgent upgrading to align with the unique demands and peculiarities of our market, similar to our physical infrastructures.

All Nigeria's fintech Unicorns, except Interswitch, have all caught the bank bug. Banking is fintech's new obsession.

@obaoftech A "decacorn" for sure. $1B seed round suggests that the valuation is at least $10B.

@UnegbuVivi27491 This is pseudo-cyesis. It’s a psychological condition among expectant women, who convince themselves that there’s a baby forming and the body begins to respond accordingly. Read about it some years back

Something happened today, a patient came in for obstetrics scan. Physically, she looks pregnant. Her tummy is big and all. I made normal small talks before I commenced. I placed probe, boom, I didn't see anything. I casually asked, "When did you see your period last?"

I’ve just returned from Nigeria’s killing fields. Pastors burned alive. Entire villages erased. Yet the world is barely paying attention. My dispatch in today’s @DailyMail. dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1…

One last tweet before I go and enjoy my weekend: The fact that an "older Nigerian" claims to have "witnessed" something and drawn their conclusions from their lived experience means extremely little, verging on nothing to me. Reason being that these exact same "older Nigerians" who apparently "witnessed" Muhammadu Buhari version 1984, came to this very app 11 years ago - in the middle of the biggest economic and cultural breakout Nigeria has had since the 1970s oil boom - under a president who had achieved 7% annual growth, largest economy in Africa, and had signed the first Freedom Of Information Act in Nigeria's history, and they told us that based on what they "witnessed" in 1983, Muhammadu NEPA Bill was the leader Nigeria needed, and would be an upgrade on the one we had. Older Nigerians are very stupid people. I do not take their opinions and thoughts seriously.

Many good businesses have been ruined because the founders thought the businesses could match VC requirements. I also think African VCs should have two plans: a) it works out, great b) it does not work out in that way, be prepared to stay with the business for long and earn dividend. The single path can force unnecessary shutdowns. There are good businesses out there that would be solid mid-income plays with new, capable management.

Turn churches into 7-days-a week community centres. Subsidize energy costs and operations through grants. Have childcare facilities, sporting complexes, libraries, free food. Watch as children make friends and break social media, gaming & substance addiction. They will read and learn. Pick up sports. Build social skills and self-confidence. Observe as parents regain bandwith and time for intentional and present parenting. Young people will observe the lives of mentors and learn to love and know Christ. Collaborations will emerge. Loneliness will reduce as people find multi-generational friendships and families. This is my vision of the modern church. A living breathing entity in the heart of urban communities.

None of us have been here before. We are all figuring shit out. Also none of us (here now) have been to the other side before. Not me, not you. Certainly not your pastor or imam. No one knows anything for certainty. It’s all assumptions.

Received a sponsorship deck for a Nollywood movie. Was surprised at how cheap the production costs quoted were. It makes sense that they make so many of them like pure water. It is risky, however, to invest massively in a single movie, as it can be unpredictable which movie will bang. It's often more sensible to spray and pray. Big-screen movies do sub-500k ticket sales, grossing sub N3 billion. The industry is crying out for a path to N10 billion in gross earnings. And there's demand, youtube can do 3 to 20 million views. Some are diaspora, but many are from Nigeria for sure. Wonder if the opportunity is in market creating innovation that brings single-screen viewing centres to local low-income communities. Have the centres as agents for distributing the movies. Perhaps an added revenue source for the football viewing centres where patronage has dwindled.

There's a way someone messages you or starts greeting you and you just know they're setting you up for billing. The moment you smell this I encourage you to start working on your excuses. I recommend you borrow a page from Dele Momodu.
