Yesterday, I told you I would share more details about Edwin Njuguna Ngugi, the Kenyan driver who was killed and left to rot in Congo.
Let me break it down for you.
Edwin is from Teso Amagoro, and on the left is a copy of his ID. His truck broke down in Bunia.
So he did what any driver would do, he called his boss in Kenya and the receiver in Congo.
The receiver told him, “Don’t worry, we’ll send another truck to pick up the cargo and deal with the broken one.”
They even organized for army protection, which did arrive.
At some point, ADF and M23 elements tried to attack, but the army managed to hold them off. For a moment, it looked like things were under control.
Then, after a few calls, the army just left.
And that’s when everything went wrong.
ADF rebels came back.
They attacked Edwin, stabbed him, shot him, and dumped his body in the bushes.
Now listen to this part carefully, because this is where it gets really disturbing.
The cargo? Part of it was stolen, but it was still collected.
The receiver reportedly sent another truck. The goods were transferred.
But Edwin’s body?
They left it there.
Just like that.
Some locals say the body wasn’t even taken to the morgue to avoid financial responsibility.
And when the Kenyan company was informed, some officials reportedly denied even knowing him, and so the body stayed there rotting coz no one could claim him.
They disowned him.
Imagine that.
A Kenyan driver, working for you, dies, and you pretend you don’t know him?
Edwin was left there, in the bush, for days, rotting.
It’s only after we raised this issue here that action was finally taken and his remains were moved to Bunia morgue.
But by then,
The condition of the body was very bad.
I’ve seen the video at Bunia morgue, and I’m telling you, it’s painful.
Now, even transporting his remains to Kenya is becoming a challenge that the Congolese have requested the family to allow they just bury him in Congo.
This is what happened.
A man was left in a dangerous place, killed, then abandoned as if he didn’t matter.
This is not normal.
This is not okay.
Kenyan drivers are out there risking everything, and this is how they are treated?
I really hope justice is served for Edwin.
Rest In Peace, Edwin
