Yeah, newer American full size trucks and Medium Duty platforms have a LOT of problems.
The capacities are really high as far as towing and so forth now, but for sheer reliability, you would be much better off with a "time machine" late 90s or early 2000's model.
pnorm@paleonormie
idk man talk to some mechanics some time, it seems that the consensus is that vehicle longevity peaked in the 2000s and newer models are increasingly disposable

@revenant_MMXX Or you can buy an actual cool vehicle - '97 Yukon in this case. Mine is rust free with only 125k miles, and has a new engine and transmission from the previous owner. All for under $12.5k. Being a GMT400 platform truck, I expect it to last 300k miles easily.

You know the auto market is still totally fucked because a new Corolla is like $25k now and a 10 year old used one is still $15-20k. You literally have to buy an actual shitbox to get a car under $10k now.

The Best Ball Junkie@BestBallJunkie
@the7maxims Those aren’t entry level vehicles though. A Corolla is an entry level

Trucks and cars from the 90s will appreciate greatly in the next few years.
Get yourself an old truck. They are new enough to have modern comforts like A/C , and can be fitted with media players etc. But they are old (simplistic) enough to work on yourself, and not be operated remotely
RIGHT TO REPAIR is something I believe in. Modern vehicles are complete trash, cannot be repaired, and are packed with sensors/trackers.
Many people would say "carburetor/points ignition only"
I like fuel injection and electronic ignition, and dont mind ECMs and tech from the 2000s and 1990s. If you know what your doing, these things are like legos.

Loved taking my beautiful wife @magdalenacals out for dinner and drinks today for her birthday in our truck.
English

@magdalenacals Valet parking declined. I don't trust the valets to appreciate an OBS truck.
English

@skillz17q My wife and I have 2 90's trucks as our daily drivers. Amazing vehicles that continue to stand the test of time

English

@obs_dad @washghost1 Yep.
Cheap.
Buy this for 1200 off a senile farmer and put on a refurbished Supercharger on it. 14 PSi.
100k miles.
Cheap parts.
Highway gears.
$2200 all in.
Better then a 2026 2.7L "economist" F-150 and faster.
Lol.
Add brakes later on for $2000.

English

@AlexanderGlista Or buy an old OBS F-150 and love the simplicity so much that you make it your daily driver.

@Flyboy3520w @magdalenacals The next gen GMT800s were just as good, but I like the OBS look better.

I love that generation, my blazer is a few years newer but still going strong. ended up getting a 2020 burban for the wife and kids, I dont like added complexity, electronics, etc., but at its heart its still a simple chevy after climbing underneath it and working on it here and there, still much better than any import, minivan, etc., GM and chevy, for the last 30 years, has made some great vehicles. They have inherent flaws, but are mostly all manageable.
English

@FinancialPhys My wife's '97 Yukon has one of the best rides I've experienced in a vehicle. Has every basic modern amenity you need. We may add a dash mounted tablet for GPS on long trips. We love the simplicity of these trucks.

English

I think some folks don’t understand that these can be built safer with more modern suspension and braking and still maintain simplicity and lines
Just removing all the EPA and tracking bullshit from vehicles goes a long way
Maybe stop making young Americans too stupid to read a gauge on a dash, or maybe show young Americans how to drive competently… 🤷♂️

English

@thecavemommy @not_ur_valentin You can get a beautiful clean 96-06 Suburban for under $20k. With a
the vortec engine they'll go at least 250k-300k miles. We have a '97 Yukon with 125k miles and I cannot believe how smooth it is to drive.
English

@not_ur_valentin It would be nice if older cars were almost not the same priced as new cars anymore
But yeah totally that’s me wanting to show off lol
