something that's been bugging me for months and i want to talk about it openly. we've been running @aiweekendsxyz for months and never had more than 5 women in a single ep. current ratio is 5 out of 35 on a good day. @whycshow was the exception. we got 25% female ratio at our show. [better than official yc startup school lol] since day 1 we wanted @aiweekendsxyz to be a safe space for anyone curious about ai to show up and learn out loud. i think we got that part right. the room is warm, nobody gatekeeps. but the uncomfortable truth is women just aren't showing up in the first place. it's not retention problem but it's top of funnel. "we're open to everyone" is not the same as "everyone feels invited." i conflated those for too long. one thing that actually worked ? word of mouth. one woman came, brought her friend, that friend brought another. trust travelled through people. not sure but i guess men show up to tech events alone because the default assumption is they belong. women do a quick mental scan. will i be the only one? will someone mansplain transformers to me? if the answer is "maybe" they don't come. fair. [again my observation and i can be wrong here] don't wanna do it for pr, but genuinely want to fix this. pls send help or tag someone you think i should talk to or partner with. thank you.

I got tired of him sending mixed signals, so I built a signal prediction system using machine learning.
