WATCH: The mother of an apprehended protester—whose video of them being throw around by the police at Mendiola, Sunday afternoon, circulated on social media—is in tears as she waits outside the Manila Police Department UN Headquarters. She found out her child was at the protest from her sister-in-law and flew to Metro Manila from Bacolod as soon as she saw the video of her child being carried by the police and then dropped on their head. Though she was told that police readied first aid for injured individuals who were arrested, she still asked that she be allowed to take her child for a CT scan or, at the very least, see her child at all. "Sana may makausap kaming matino sa kanila (Manila Police Department). Lahat kaming magulang andito para sa peace of mind ... at para malaman kung ano ang gagawin namin," she said.

i hope the media stops romanticizing protests as if they’re just colorful gatherings. show the truth—may dugo sa kalsada. people are risking their lives, not just raising their voices. if you’ll cover rallies, cover them fully. don’t sanitize the struggle, expose the violence too

now i can’t help but wonder what these nepo babies are feeling right now. watching the streets fill with people angrier, louder, and more relentless than ever. it must be jarring to scroll past chants calling for justice right after posting their curated ig pictures, their vacations, their LOUD luxury. do they feel a twinge of fear? of guilt? or have they mastered the art of detachment numbing themselves to the noise of the very people their families have failed?
and really, what is it like to grow up cushioned by wealth that was built on the backs of the ordinary? to sit at a dinner table where power is inherited, where corruption is brushed off, where accountability is optional? i wonder if they ever question it or if it’s easier to convince themselves that the anger outside doesn’t concern them. but sooner or later, history will remind them, no one gets to stay untouched forever.
