Beyond conventional postgraduate sponsorships, our workforce development strategy now prioritizes structured and outcome-driven training models, aligning with institutions that demonstrate strong industry relevance and academic excellence, as we build a pipeline of expertise capable of supporting a more competitive, efficient, and future-ready energy sector. My visit to Universiti Malaya, alongside the Executive Secretary of the PTDF and other stakeholders, provided a valuable platform to engage with our sponsored scholars while concurrently reviewing and deepening our institutional partnership. These engagements were particularly significant as we advance plans to launch the first cohort of the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK). Central to this is the CPESK-led split-site programme, which will combine local capacity building with international exposure, mirroring similar arrangements successfully implemented with three universities in the United Kingdom, to ensure practical, industry-focused skills transfer that directly supports sector transformation. It is worthy of note that Nigeria, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, remains firmly committed to driving sustained growth in the energy sector, recognizing it as the surest and most expedient pathway to economic expansion, revenue optimization, and national development. This is to inform the general public that applications are now open for the 2026/2027 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme. The application portal opened on Friday, 16 January 2026, and will remain open for six (6) weeks, closing on Friday, 27 February 2026.

Moments from the Celebration Honouring Nine PTDF Retirees The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) hosted a warm and well-curated retirement ceremony in honour of nine retiring staff members, celebrating their years of dedicated service to the Fund.

He also underscored that the PTDF Overseas Scholarship Scheme is deliberately structured to discourage brain drain, focusing instead on nurturing talented Nigerians who will return to contribute meaningfully to national growth.

He stressed that such an initiative would foster deeper collaboration between academia and industry, providing scholars with access to internships and potential employment opportunities.
