Update on Covenant University: The family of late 500-level student Tunmise, REJECTED the school’s statement, NANS is now involved. A family source said the claim of an “undisclosed heart condition” is false. That they fabricated it and reached a conclusion without the their knowledge or a comprehensive review. Contrary to the university’s statement, Tunmise had no history of any underlying heart condition, nor is there any of such condition in the family. The family issued a statement highlighting inconsistencies in the school’s release, describing it as unconvincing. Apparently, they requested a comprehensive report on Tunmise’s passing for clarity, but Covenant University has yet to comply. As a result, the family plans to visit the school on Monday, April 13th 2026, to demand answers. Covenant University claimed that the 500-level student was brought in dead due to an underlying heart condition, and although CPR was administered, he did not survive. However, colleagues who took him to the medical centre told the family that he was alive upon arrival when the doctor asked them to leave. The doctor later called them back, asking what had happened, at the time he maintained that Tunmise was still alive. Based on these, the family strongly believes that Tunmise’s death resulted from medical negligence, as the school’s statement does not align with eyewitness accounts. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), through its Office of Private Institutions Affairs, expressed their condolences and has written to Covenant University requesting an independent investigation. Of which its panel would include law enforcement agencies, neutral observers, and student representatives to ensure transparency, fairness, and objectivity. NANS, led by Comrade Emmanuel Segun Amos, Director of Private Institutions Affairs, will be present at the school on Tuesday April 14th, 2026 for further discussions. This story will be updated. @CUHEBRON Story does not add up. "He was brought in dead" that means someone confirmed it. Then you proceeded to say "we performed CPR"... who performed CPR on a confirmed dead person?

Honestly I had to get off social media because if I say what was in my mind, I don't think I might have been safe. But let me say this: To the students who fought for Tunmise's right to live thank you so much for all the love you showed to him even in his final moments.

Covenant University is trending because Tunmise a 500-level Building Tech student died at the medical center, because they didn’t have Oxygen so they switched to prayers till he died. Oyedepo too joined. It’s the same way students died in 2017 and 2025. Apparently, they were playing the Chancellor’s Cup, a match between Computer Engineering and Building Tech, Tunmise asked for an early sub as he was feeling weak and short of breath. At half time, his situation got worse, they rushed him to the medical centre where the doctor on duty allegedly said Tunmise just needed air. But minutes later, said had stopped breathing. Apparently, they didn’t use an oxygen or nebulizer. Because the ₦1.9M per session school housing over 11,000 students had nothing in their arsenal, except Jesus, so they switched to prayers. According to multiple persons, Oyedepo arrived too and joined the prayers to revive him, it failed. It was about 3 hours later they informed Tunmise’s parents, while the school leaders were still contemplating proceeding with the football tournament. Also, some are alleging that the school WiFi was turned off as a news control measure, and students are forbidden from purchasing data or browsing outside school’s ISP. June 2025, a 200L engineering student Mordi Nwese Daniel was struck by lightning on the same football pitch, instead of taking him for treatment, they started praying for him, he died. April 2017, a 500L Building Tech student hit his head in the pool, students managed to resuscitate him, rushed him to the school clinic, they didn’t have oxygen or defibrillator, they again opted for prayers, he died. The school is yet to issue a statement on Tunmise’s death. However, students speaking up are afraid they may be sanctioned or targeted. This story will be updated. Follow @TrendingEx for dailies.

i think the worst thing about these people is that they don’t acknowledge the deaths of their students. They just sweep it under the rug and act like nothing happened. No accountability, no remorse. Not even a moment of silence.
