#goodomens
Was reading a random Terry Pratchett interview and this part about Pratchett making Gaiman reverse all the deaths in Good Omens hit me like a truck full of bricks 😭

English

because immortal souls fated to meet across lifetimes are a real thing" wow, i don't think I'M the one who's a rube, here #go3spoilers
English

"you just don't get it, the GO finale argues for an atheist analysis in that free will is impossible in a universe with an omnipotent god. and you're a simple-minded rube for being sad about it > #go3spoilers
English

@TimonTomato @_sparrowboy you keep saying "fantasy story" as if to dismiss the idea that the book alone isn't profound enough to stand as a valid theological critique, and i'm saying it is and does. in fact i think the ending of S3 is pretty theologically incoherent.
English

@ohdirtyriver @_sparrowboy however there's clearly a lighter vibe in the book which can definitely stand on its own as a fantasy story
English

#goodomens3spoilers oh also I just looooove how God implies they gave Aziraphale Crowley and "coupled' them because they thought they two were funny, and not because, you know, THEY ARE DEMON AND ANGEL WHO ARE FRIENDS AND LOVERS AGAINST ALL ODDS?? THAT WAS THE PLOT OF THE BOOK???
English

@TimonTomato @_sparrowboy ...which i take to mean that the changes he made when adapting S1 had already substantively changed the course of the overall story. all of which is to say, if you like the tv show narrative that's great, but there's no evidence it was part of a master plan all along.
English

@TimonTomato @_sparrowboy we really only have NG's word to go on for what that sequel plot was meant to be, and he admitted that he had to make up the entirety of S2 to get the characters from where they were at the end of S1 to where they needed to be at the beginning of S3...
English

@TimonTomato @_sparrowboy i mean, i lived with just the book for 30 years before the tv show came out, and as far as i'm concerned it was written to stand perfectly well and neatly address the themes of free will, predetermination, etc. on its own. but let's agree to disagree here.
English

@ohdirtyriver @_sparrowboy it does agree with it, it's just that S1 is the beginning & they show the nastier aspect of the universe more and more as the story unfolds & the characters evolve.
Definitely isn't what you would expect of a fantasy story; which I understand isn't to everyone's taste
English

@sombrephoque @CharCubed @purveyor_books *sobbing* NO, why did you have to pass the "smell my fingers" mind virus on to ME??
English

@CharCubed @purveyor_books Hunger games kiss: now I can’t unsee it.
The same way someone said: «smell my fingers Crowley » and now it haunts me
English

running commentary I’m giving @purveyor_books out loud about good omens 3
-welcome back infinity war!!
-why was Jesus even there
-what was the plot? does anyone know?
-hunger games did [that kiss] first, bitch!
-why did they spend 30 minutes on a mafia side quest
English

@semiralana ask an artist that you like if you can use their crowley art 💜
English

@TimonTomato @_sparrowboy i agree that's what S3 was getting at. i just don't think that interpretation agrees with the universe we were shown in the book/S1, and it's not one i'm interested in exploring. 🤷🏽
English

@_sparrowboy @ohdirtyriver because that-s what God wants & therefore no one & nothing can change that. They're like puppets acting in a show.
It sucks becayse they didn’t have time to develop this in S3 but it's the conclusion they come to- it's all pointless so long as God has a hand on the universe
English

@crvzcredo @shitomens i'll always consider sandman a masterpiece, and i liked some of his early books & short stories (long long before all the horrible SA shit came out), but yeah - he can't help but lean towards tragedy, which GO should never have been.
English

@tweedfeather yup, i feel this thread. i am - not exactly an atheist, but i've identified as one in the past and i still do sometimes - and i'm certainly not christian. but i've always loved fantasy, mythology, & religious stories. stripping all that out of the GO universe is depressing to me.
English

#GoodOmens3 is a complicated pill for to me to swallow right now as an atheist IRL.
A personal little thread below 🧵
English

@guessimdemons imo just as a casual fan who saw him at booktalks/lectures a few times over the years, he was always kind of smug and cringe but it came off as more dorkily likeable. when he married AP, started making movies & tv adaptations etc is when he started to get obviously egotistical
English

@ohdirtyriver Like was he always like that??? I admit I’ve never read his stuff I’m mostly going through Terrys right now
English

So lemme get this straight Neil you wrote that kiss in S2 and was like yknow what nah and didn’t have one in S3. Because fuck us I guess #goodomens3spoilers
English

@guessimdemons i constantly made excuses for him in my head because i truly loved so much of what he wrote (sandman as well was a huge influence on me in my teens). should've listened to my gut!!!!
English

@ohdirtyriver Looking back he really was? I never wanted to voice it because everyone loved him but now I’m like he was super arrogant
