A couple of times every week I think I see someone I know but then, as I go to say hi, I realise the person I think I’ve seen is a person who lives in London, and the person I’ve actually seen is a Melb-based doppelgänger.
It’s always momentarily exciting. And then a bit sad 😢
My easter highlight/surprise was testing positive for COVID-19, two and a half weeks after vaccination. The vaccine has probably mitigated it – but still high fever, listlessness, coughs etc. Luckily a year of lockdowns is good preparation for self-isolation.
@CMTippett & I talked about the why/what/how of mixed methods innovation not wasting the opportunity to get a bit of philosophy of science & Princess Bride memes into the mix.
Yesterday, we had a fantastic @nesta_uk practices awayday. This included a talk by Maesy Angelina from @UNGlobalPulse about their mixed methods work. I specially like the idea of using mixed methods to map problem, solution & identity spaces.
🙌 @kseniazhel & @KathyPeach 🙌

Today marks one year of #WFH and saying goodbye to this view @nesta_uk London office. Looking forward to seeing my @NestaChallenges colleagues again soon 🤞
@Kateannasutton At some point soon I'd love to chat about mindset, too? We've tipped our cap to mindset before but I'm keen to make it a bit more explicit in our work.
Thread: I gave a talk about #innovation last night and how ya'll can do it. A few bits from it. I talked about technical and adaptive challenges and knowing the difference when you are starting your innovation journey (of course @Dan_Farag)
Lots of new, creative things have emerged as a result of COVID. One of the developments I like the most is how people are taking time to craft out-of-office messages that are so human, and often quite hilarious.
@katjabego@geoffmulgan True, and an availability heuristic? People who quickly recall The End Of History & other famous predictions that missed the mark are quick to paint others with the same brush?
@geoffmulgan Could also be a bit of a bias at play: we’ll still read a history book even if it made some wrong predictions/extrapolations + history books generally have a longer shelf life, whereas books on current affairs/future trends that were completely off the mark are mostly forgotten
A friend argued to me that historians are never good at either forecasting (other than very mainstream forecasts) or political strategy. I love reading history - but couldn’t think of any exceptions. Are there good ones? And if there aren’t, why is this?
@black_whole@nesta_uk Hi Alia: thank you for your interest in the role. I think we are looking for applicants who can work in the UK but @g_r_richardson can confirm.
**Job opportunity** We are looking for data scientists at various levels of experience / skillsets. This includes roles embedded in multidisciplinary teams pursuing ambitious health & sustainability missions. Get in touch if interested & spread the word!

2 most common pieces of advice when buying a 🏠 (often from the same person):
1) have a hard limit and stick to it, and
2) in the long run, what's a few thousand $$$ more?
🤷♂️🤷♂️
Beautiful socks make me feel happy. I bought these on the weekend using a birthday gift voucher from @CPI_foundation.
What random thing makes you happy?
The Protein & the Social Worker. Here is a summary of my @nesta_uk blog about the potential and risks of deploying machine learning* to tackle societal challenges & implications for our work in the future.

i got back into digging for music over the break, which i rarely have had time to do over the last year...i'm talking about going deep into the interwebs. being able to hear all these artists and their music from the instruments used to their history has been quite relaxing
