I finally finished Season 1 of Zenless Zone Zero, and man, what a rollercoaster ride it’s been, full of emotions I didn’t expect. At first, it came off as this wholesome, goofy game where nothing needed to be taken too seriously, and I was totally vibing with that. But then you interact with some of the characters and suddenly you realize this game can get serious when it wants to. It’s never gloomy, though. It stays fun, energetic, and full of life. The music, the character animations, the overall aesthetic of New Eridu, everything just clicks for me. It’s a post apocalyptic world where everyone’s doing their best to carve out something worth living for. Sure, the Hollows are terrifying, but the real danger often comes from the people in power. The ones with status and influence are so corrupt they don’t care who gets hurt as long as they stay on top. The weak are the ones who suffer the most.. dying, getting sold off, or turning into monsters inside the Hollows just trying to scrape by using its energy. Instead of fighting the Hollows themselves, the rich send the poor in to collect the treasures, all while raking in insane profits. New Eridu isn’t a happy place by any means, yet the characters who shine are the ones who refuse to be crushed by it all. They adapt, they push back, and they climb every ladder they can. I love how the game shows that one person alone can be powerless, but when small people come together, they can actually make a real difference. That theme hits hard. So yeah… Season 1 was awesome. The buildup to the finale, the Proxy’s growing ambitions, the character development, it all feels like it’s building toward something much bigger and better. I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.
