If Tomorrow Comes... Many patriotic Nigerians are visibly weighed down by the State of the Nation. They know the present governance stance and modalities are not sustainable. They want leadership change; they envisage it. And they want it to come about peacefully. While some are politicking to bring about the much desired change, many others - patriots all- are immersed in strident behind-the-scenes conversations, with a view to remedying Nigeria's altered state, tanking economy and overhanging debt burden, without rupture. For over 16 months, a set of patriots have been engaged in very difficult, at times, halting but constructive engagement and discussions on the way forward; and how to extricate Nigeria from the present leadership quagmire. The discussions have been very animated, brutally frank and sometimes, heated. Understandably, the conversations in certain political circles in the North tilt toward discretion and cautious engagement. But the national imperative is overarching. APC remaining in power after 2027 is not an option. Nigeria cannot continue as is. So these men and women persist in their collaborative efforts in the national interest. This is nation-building at its best. If tomorrow comes, let them get the credit for their role and tenacity in upholding the ethos of the founding fathers. Having been part of the process, I remain optimistic. As in life and indeed, as is always the case in the meeting room, there is always light at the end of the tunnel. A few cameo photos of the meetings, I've been privilleged to take, always point to the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel and to an eventual positive outcome. Photo Credit: @OselokaHObaze

Sad: Schoolchildren Now ‘Pawns in Ransom Economy’ There is nothing more heartbreaking for a nation than an inability to protect its children. The recent attacks and kidnappings of students from two schools—in Mussa Village, Askira/Uba LGA, Borno State (North-East) and Ahoro-Esinele community, Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State (South-West)—mark a grave crisis that threatens the future of the nation. Beyond the immediate terror of these acts, they represent a significant infringement on the basic right to education and a safe upbringing. The fear of further abduction often leads children—especially girls—to permanently leave school. The ongoing “out-of-school” crisis is alarming in itself, and it is likely to worsen due to these distressing incidents. In areas frequently affected by such attacks, education systems often deteriorate. Fear becomes a substantial obstacle to school enrollment, adding to the already high number of children currently not attending school. Ensuring the safety of schools is not just a logistical issue; it is a moral obligation. Protecting the next generation demands a blend of community-led intelligence, the physical strengthening of educational facilities, and a transparent justice system that holds wrongdoers accountable. For the actualization of a new Nigeria that is POssible, we must make the safety, education, and wellbeing of our children a priority. -PO

Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai
Press Release: Our father, Mallam Nasir @elrufai, is still being held by the ICPC. Today, 15 May 2026, we witnessed two distinct yet equally serious attacks on his basic rights. First, his personal Doctor visited the ICPC at about 3pm to discuss the results of medical tests recently conducted on our father. Officials at the agency blocked the doctor from seeing him, claiming that written permission from the ICPC Chairman was required. This directly flouts a clear court order granting Mallam Nasir El‑Rufai unrestricted access to his doctors. Second, his wife, Aunty Aichatou, brought his evening meal at around 7pm as she normally does. ICPC personnel turned her away, saying they had orders not to permit food deliveries after 6:30pm. This arbitrary rule is no less offensive than blocking his right to medical care. These acts are an outright assault on the rule of law and a clear violation of our father's constitutional and human rights. No lawful detention justifies denying medical access or refusing basic family care based on an arbitrary curfew fixed by the ICPC. Shame on them as an institution. We demand that all his constitutional rights be fully respected. We will no longer accept this pattern of intimidation dressed up as protocol. The ICPC must abide by the very laws it claims to enforce. Signed Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai Member. Kaduna North Federal Constituency Chairman, Committee on Banking Regulations. May 15, 2026.

Senator Suleiman Abdu Kwari
It is truly disheartening to see a man who has served this nation and our dear State with distinction being treated in this manner. The denial of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai’s access to his doctors and family by the ICPC is deeply concerning, as it touches on his fundamental rights as a citizen. Mallam deserves fair and humane treatment. He remains innocent in the eyes of the law until proven otherwise, and I urge the authorities to uphold the rule of law and the dignity of the individual in this process.

Today, I had the pleasure of receiving members of the House of Representatives who recently decamped to the NDC. They paid a courtesy visit to interact with me and the leadership of our party. We were also delighted to have in attendance, first, His Excellency Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and later, His Excellency Peter Obi, who joined us. I thank them for their support for the party and for the loyalty they demonstrated in following their leader to the NDC. They are on the right course, and the NDC remains committed to building a united and democratic Nigeria for all. I urged them to continue to uphold the democratic rights of the Nigerian people and to resist every attempt to entrench a one-party state in our country. They should remain steadfast in supporting the party while continuing to work closely with their leaders and constituents in service to the people. I also received my former colleague from Gombe State, Senator Col. Amos Bulus (Rtd), and his team, who joined us from the APC. In the same vein, Prince Yahaya Audu led a delegation from Kogi State and was warmly received. It was a pleasure for His Excellency Peter Obi to join me in welcoming Col. Bulus, Prince Audu, and their team members into the NDC family. We also received the donation of a vehicle from the Delta State chapter of the NDC. I thank the donors, as well as all those who, since the launch of this party, have continued to support the NDC through various donations and contributions. May God replenish their resources abundantly. I also call on other Nigerians of goodwill to continue to support the party. The NDC is not funded by any single individual or by any government. Our party is sustained by the sacrifice, commitment, and contributions of members and supporters who believe in our vision for a better Nigeria. ~HSD
