The modern film industry deserves the shake up AI is about to bring. For too long now major studios have cared more about budgets, celebrity casts, and profit margins than actual storytelling, emotion, atmosphere, and performance. So much modern content feels engineered for retention algorithms instead of genuine artistic impact. Netflix, Disney, Paramount and most major streaming services just keep pumping out the same safe recycled slop because it works commercially. Everything looks polished but half of it says absolutely nothing. Honestly this shift was inevitable. We already saw something similar happen in the late 70s and especially through the 80s when consumer cameras and camcorders became more accessible to the public. Filmmaking slowly became less gatekept and creators suddenly had access to tools that were once only in the hands of studios and professionals. That accessibility helped fuel independent filmmaking and gave more creative people the ability to actually tell stories. I don’t think AI kills film. I think it forces the industry to return to what made film powerful in the first place. Story, feeling, atmosphere, creativity, meaning. Studios are now going to have to compete with creators who can make compelling films without needing massive budgets or industry connections. I’m honestly excited to see what happens from this shift. Film is no longer going to be gatekept.
