I took delivery of a used Canon EF 300mm f2.8 lens today and took it for a whirl at St James' park this afternoon. I got it for diving Gannets and certain birds in flight and it feels so light compared to my big 600. This is one of the park's resident Pelicans - so far so good!

@Brians_birds Yes although it broke my heart to sell my 500f4 , I feel Canon were left behind the curve when mirrorless cameras came out also I did not like the zoom on the rf 100-500 the Sony zooms are internal , it’s a big jump but i dont regret it

@oldbird123 Interesting that I was just today investigating switching from Canon to Sony - partly as the 300mm 2.8 lens is a kilo lighter! Are you happy with the decision?

@Brians_birds I now use Sony after using Canon for many years , Sony a1 and a93 300 2.8 lens with 2x converter that’s what I travel with but also in UK 200-600 and 400-800 and 70-200 but I only shoot wildlife birds mostly, I am also on Flickr
