A good high school XC coach understands the spectrum of fitness better than most. Why?
They've got to coach the extremes:
1. The kid trying to win a state championship.
2. The overweight kid who has never run before and get to racing 5k without getting injured.

A study on elite Kenyan runners found that 76% of their diet was carbohydrate.
20% of their diet was pure sugar.
We like to demonize and simplify diet into good/evil... Reality is much more complex and nuanced.
If you're running a ton, carbs are your best friend.
