Dear ones, I've been tweeting for over a decade, poring over old books to find delicious morsels of British folklore to share. I've made real life connections with gorgeous souls, but I'm not here so much nowadays. Find me on BlueSky. 🦋🦋🦋 @oldweirdbritain.bsky.social

We took another beating last night. Nothing to be done now until the floodwaters recede.

All Saint's Church Brixworth, Northamptonshire is perhaps the most important survival of Anglo-Saxon architecture north of the Alps. Much of the C7th church remains from the reign of King Wulfhere in the form of a Roman Basilica. The stair turret is C10th. Spire is C14th.

It’s been 9 months since Dad died. I miss him terribly. I built a fire in Pigwiggen Wood, and sat for a long time in the evening light. It felt healing and magical. #pigwiggenwood

I'm fundraising to create the longest table on earth crafted from a single English oak tree. "A potent symbol of hope in a kinder world." Watch the lively video here: crowdfunder.co.uk/p/great-oak-ta… Visit the wood to meet your tree! (I'll bake you a cake!) #PigwiggenWood

"Build a longer table not a higher fence" Enough people believe in the possibility of a kinder world to put £18,470 of their hard-earned money into this project. I'm awestruck, humbled and grateful. Can we hit £20,000 before the campaign ends on Sunday?🤞 crowdfunder.co.uk/p/great-oak-ta…

@mikeleach42 Sadly, I don’t have a credit for this one. Otherwise, I would have certainly given the artist the credit he or she deserves.

Sweep your hearth. Set your shoes thereby. The #faeries will place threepence in your shoe. But do not speak of it. Mrs Markey of Hereford did use this custom and gained as many silver 3ds as bought her a silver-cup of 30 shillings value, which her daughter preserves still.
