Current Status: The university will reopen Monday, Feb. 9. Today, Chancellor Glenn Boyce shared guidance about our return on Monday, Feb. 9 with students and employees. Our updates will now focus on providing practical information and resources to help prepare for the return. Please continue monitoring your university email for updates from housing, dining, academic affairs, health services, human resources and other campus departments. KEY GUIDANCE - To support ongoing recovery and revitalization work over the weekend and allow crews the space they need to work safely and efficiently: - Employees should plan to return to campus no earlier than Monday morning, Feb. 9. We understand this may require adjustments to your usual weekend routines or preparation time. - Students living on campus should plan to return on Sunday, Feb. 8 after 1 p.m. All dining locations will be open at that time. We understand that some students may need to arrive earlier due to flight schedules or other travel constraints. The Department of Student Housing will communicate additional guidance. - Students living off campus should begin planning your return to Oxford with enough time to assess your living situation and check for any storm-related issues. If you’re still without power or struggling with travel logistics, please communicate with your instructors. - For assistance with storm-related challenges that may affect your return, please contact our call center at 662-915-7211 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. so we can understand your needs and share available resources to help. SERVICES - The Gertrude C. Ford Student Union will be open 8 a.m.–5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6 and Saturday, Feb. 7. On Sunday, Feb. 8, hours will be 8 a.m.–8 p.m. with expanded food service available (see dining section below). - Human Resources has shared time entry and approval guidance for non-exempt (hourly) employees impacted by the university closure. The deadline for time entry and supervisor approval is Monday, Feb. 9, at 1 p.m. - OUT buses will resume campus routes when the university reopens on Monday, Feb. 9. Download the TransLoc app for updates. - Due to flooding in the V.B. Harrison Building from Winter Storm Fern, Student Health Services will temporarily relocate to the South Oxford Center (2301 South Lamar Blvd.) beginning Monday, Feb. 9. Employee Health Services and Pharmacy Health Services will continue to operate in their current locations. DINING - Beginning Sunday, Feb. 8, Dining Services will resume regular operations in all locations, including meal card swipes. - Rebel Market and The Dish at the Residential College remain open from 10 a.m.– 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6 and Saturday, Feb. 7. Dear university community, Winter Storm Fern has left significant and heartbreaking damage across our campus, our homes and our region. Recovery will take time, and it will take all of us united in resilience. Today, we announced that our campus will remain closed through Sunday, Feb. 8. While our teams have worked tirelessly to restore operations, the impacts of this storm go far beyond our campus. The people of our city and county, including thousands of students and employees, are facing the loss of power and water, internet and cellular connectivity issues and intermittent access to food and fuel. Our focus remains on keeping our people safe, and that means acknowledging that we are part of a larger community in crisis. Conditions remain hazardous with ice on roads and walkways, inoperable stop lights, downed trees and power lines as well as falling ice as temperatures fluctuate. I urge everyone to avoid non-essential travel on campus, both on foot and by vehicle, so our recovery teams have the space they need to work safely and diligently. In the midst of this devastation, we have witnessed the extraordinary strength of our community and the unwavering dedication of those who have cared for our students. Our housing staff, dining teams, facilities crews, police and emergency responders and so many others have gone above and beyond, working around the clock in difficult and dangerous conditions. We are so grateful to each of them, and to our first responders and community partners. Updates will continue as recovery progresses and as we are able to safely restore full operations. Until then, please continue to exercise caution, look out for one another and draw strength from the incredible community that surrounds us. Sincerely, Glenn F. Boyce Chancellor
