Whenever I go to a bookshop, I look to see if they have a copy of Lolita. The book was published 69 years ago today, and has an interesting history regarding its cover art -- the author, Vladimir Nabokov, did not want any depiction of a young girl on the cover, his wishes were not taken into account, and as it stands there are approximately 210 different covers for this one book, many of which feature illustrations depicting girls, much to his distaste. I sort of view the different covers almost like Pokemon cards now, and have a strange curiosity to see every one of them.

The hemoglobin level in your blood is important for taking up and using oxygen in your muscles heart& lungs. It’s perhaps the single most important reason that men outperform women in endurance events, because of the higher hemoglobin level. It has been long noted that hemoglobin levels are closely tied to testosterone levels. When transgender women lower their testosterone levels to female levels, which happens universally when trans women under undergo medical transition, trans women move from male levels of hemoglobin to female levels of hemoglobin. Loughborough University’s research, looked at how the protein in our red blood cells that helps oxygen flow to our muscles for aerobic activity is affected by hormone replacement therapy in trans women. Loughborough University’s findings show the hemoglobin level in transgender women falls to levels in line with c_sgender women in the space of 3 to 4 months on average. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15075918/ That is a huge change and it affects all endurance sports, and, in fact, any sport where you were being active for more than a few minutes. With the reduction of the oxygen-carrying hemoglobin in blood to c1sgender female levels after around 3-4 months of GAHT, and a trans woman's body will be significantly underpowered. Trans women have less delivery of oxygen to their working muscles produces a higher rate of metabolites and consequently results in muscle fatigue. For those who suggest trans women have advantages: we allow advantages in sport, but what we don’t allow is overwhelming advantages. Trans women also have disadvantages in sport. Our larger bodies are being powered by reduced muscle mass and reduced aerobic capacity, and can lead to disadvantages in quickness, recovery and a number of other factors. The bottom line is, we can have meaningful competition between trans women and c1s women.
